Are people making the switch to FSX Steam?
We can speculate all we want about Steam vs MSFSX but the fact remains that any future of FSX the program rides on Dovetail and no where else. I will admit there is some improvement with SE. The reason I uninstalled it was the interaction with my original version that caused me to have to re-load MSFSX and start over and I wont consider reloading SE until all the add-on's I put my money on work with the program. I have seen Dovetail reaching out and correcting issues based on priority and that's good. I have decided to do the old wait and see. I hope that Dovetail can one day create a flightsim more up to date but that might be out of their hands for the time being. I will stick to MSFSX until I am sure which program will lead us into the future. In my opinion MSFSX and SE are just to get us by for the present.

Landing problems
Regarding ILS approaches Here are 2 videos that will answer that question in detail . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijpiqYldYOY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLW8XbjQctE Now I know that the person who made these video's is in the hall of shame here at avsim, but the videos really will help you learn ILS systems. Give it a try.

A wish for Tom
Hi everyone, I read an interview located in the AVSIM forum called the" Janitor" In that interview Tom expressed a wish for a new section in this forum called " Volunteer’s Wall of Pride " . With the sad news of his passing from us, could we create this for him? Could we put his name at the top of the list? We have all seen the ugly side of this forum. How soon we forget all the good and helpful people who have made it really a great place to be! I have read many of Tom's Posts and he could argue the points if he needed too, but his tone was always that of getting the correct answers to you and helping correct any issues you were having. He did it with honer. Just a thought Darrin

Don't upgrade to Windows 10 yet.
Anyway you look at it we are talking Microsoft right? If we use the past as a base of measure then I might get on board at SP2 or above. Windows 7 is a 64 bit platform and FSX is 32. Seems like time is on my side. ^_^

No 64-bit P3D coming according to Orbxs' John Venema
Thanks, But I don't think is has anything to do with a degree in computer science but rather a fear of cost and retooling. In other words a quick buck rather than a look ahead. These software guys have proven that they can take an old program and push it right to the edge and I take my hat off to them. My question is how will flight simulator be advanced for the future... who will last? I look at it like this: You can be in one of three categories 1) You are on the train 2) You are on the tracks 3) You are on the side of the tracks I want to know who will be driving the train? That is where my hard earned money will go

No 64-bit P3D coming according to Orbxs' John Venema
Wow, what conversations we have going on here. From what I have put into this thread and what I have read. I know now this is why I have not moved from FSX Classic and continue to monitor where flight simulation is headed. The future is indeed up for grabs. I still purchase products that are compatible with FSX and P3D. Will we move to 64 bit? Well we can't live in the stone age forever but for those who have put their stock in 32 bit being the future of simulation must have monkey vision . I am 55 years old so you would think I would be one of the simmers to settle for what we have. I am not afraid of change. I know there are some developers who are resisting a 64 bit platform and that indicates a business plan that won't survive the long term and did not think ahead of where we are. Come on guys, pro active not re- active.

FS-Panel - Majestic Dash Q8-400 issue w/ fs-passenger X
Has anyone heard of problems with FS-passenger not detecting switch changes for landing / beacon lights ? I am leaning towards the FS-panel causing the mis-reads. My reasoning is it is directly linked to the panel folder of the aircraft. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

No 64-bit P3D coming according to Orbxs' John Venema
ThanksI will be watching for this development . I have not ruled out X-plane as an alternative but I want to see third party groups in the process along with an all groups consideration . Having a 64 bit platform on the market, X-plane put themselves in a good position. All it would require now is a whole community market view.

Still worth buying FSX stuff? Future of flight sim?
Yes I do have it and love it !!! The future sim will one day arrive but I don't know if it will be in my lifetime. 55 years old with 5 heart attacks under my belt.

It is true that the 64 bit platform for X-Plane is outstanding however there is one factor alone that scares me and perhaps the third party developers as well. This program is not developed for the Novice. The Novice is the future of this hobby ( In my opinion ) without the newcomer we will beat this horse into the ground. I am 55 years old and I am not afraid of change but I am afraid of investing thousands into a program that might get lost down the road.

FSX - P3D 2.5. Should I?
Cost is not an issue for me as I am hopelessly addicted to flight simulation, but I have been watching trends and getting a feeling that the scales are going to turn in the near future. I still feel 64 bit is the key to that future. Whoever pulls that rabbit out of the hat ( and I don't mean x-plane ) will have my vote and my money. I need a sim worthy of the machine I run it on.

Very nice, I am using Blue Sky in Utah. Looks like you have tweaked your cfg well for focus on approach in KSLC. I live in Salt Lake City. Well Done !!!

FSX - P3D 2.5. Should I?
It's not the simulator I am concerned with but rather who will take the lion's share of this market. With the Release of steam I would rather watch for now. I have FSX running rather well. With the reluctance in creating a 64 bit platform for fear the third party developers will not want to get on board and re-tool continues to keep us in the stone age. At least the stone I am running is well polished. I just want to see where we are headed before I spend thousands again.

FSX - P3D 2.5. Should I?
I would like to upgrade but have decided to wait and see. I still invest in FSX but now when I buy aircraft and scenery .... I make sure the product is compatible for both P3D and FSX

Are you using Megascenery or Blue Sky ?

Still worth buying FSX stuff? Future of flight sim?
I am considering P3D but with all the money I have tied up in FSX all my future aircraft and scenery add-on's are now determined on that product being compatible with both FSX and P3D. I hope a 64 bit platform will come into play. It would seem that there is much resistance for P3D doing so. I read they are working instead on VAS management improvements with the 32 bit platform. The reason being that third party developers are not keen to re-tool. My thought is " we can't live in the stone age forever " I feel that the 64 bit is the solution for the future and the simulator's development. At least for now there won't be need to advance the machine I am running it on.

Are people making the switch to FSX Steam?
Right now that battle for the future of flight simulation is taking place. It is up for grabs. I know P3D is looking better but I am not going to jump ship from FSX until Steam or P3D is running a 64 bit platform. I have thousands invested in FSX. I will not spend a dime on another version until that time. If Lockheed Martin is Smart they would contract a gaming version of P3D. This is a small market and survival depends on attracting the Novice as well as the advanced virtual flyer. Could be a long wait.... It has been a long wait!!!

Landing problems
I am not sure but it could be your angle of attack ( Pitch and touchdown FPM ) Try a airport with a nice long runway where you can practice low profile descents. It sounds like your final descent is too steep. PS: try the default 737 at 140 knotts with flaps full at touchdown. If your using ILS for landing , disengage it just short of the runway and bring the nose up slightly . Open a second window if need be with a wing view so you can see it's shadow on the runway and try a slow touchdown with about a 3 to 5 % pitch on the nose.

Add-ons, VAS, OOM.
The worst VAS killer I have dealt with is Autogen. It depends on a number of factors: What version of FSX you are running ( Steam or Classic) If Classic then make sure you have applied the HIGHMEMFIX=1 into the [GRAPHICS] section of your fsx.cfg I use photo scenery with no autogen/ combined with add- on airports. Some payware aircraft can bring you VAS usage up as well. The advantage to photo scenery with no autogen is Vas usage is managed quite well. I get better frame rates with this set-up You should download the Process Explorer which will help you see VS usage and what may be causing your overload. www.Sysinternals.com

Default 737 range problems
Yes Sir, same problem for me on even shorter hops. I went into the aircraft cfg to fix mine. I just changed the ratio of fuel the aircraft burns.
