Need help with Round the World Flight

Featured Replies

Hey,After growing tired of seeing my local airfield over and over and over again I decided to fly somewhere new, but with the enormous number of airfields available in FS9 I was a little lost as to where to go. I didn't want to just transport to someplace new because that felt like cheating myself out of a journey, so I decided to start from my local airfield (as usual) and fly to another field close by. Next time I load up flight sim I'll start from that last field and go from there. Before long I'm bound to be somewhere new! This even has the potential to become a Round the World trip, so I've started plotting some sort of route.Oops, before I go any further, I want to add that I plan on starting at EGMH, Manston on the far south east corner of England (my home airfield) and using only the Default 172, and the Default Lear. anything larger than that and I'll just be flying over masses and masses of land without seeing anything. I want to pilot the 172 and take in the sights.I'd like to visit a good majority of the countries on my way. I know this will be a VERY long trip, but I plan on just taking it one leg at a time. That's where you guys come in. Are there any suggestions on places I should make a point of stopping by? I'd like to have to tackle a few mountains on the way and I'd like to possibly attempt a few 'not-so-straight-forward' landings. I'd like to visit some famous airfields, and also some lesser know. (I know i may have to make a few afcads for these!) is there any good freeware scenery out there that I should make a point of downloading and visiting on my way past?ANY suggestions, for ANY part of the globe are welcome, I want to get the most out of this.

I recently did a Round The World trip in a BAC 1-11 500 (from DM Flight Sim). It has a rather limited range, less than the Lear Jet, so I had to make a number of stops along the way. I almost always used the range available (using quite a large fuel reserve), but I had to make a few shorter flights to set up the ocean crossings safely. The route I used was:Paris - Nice - Beirut - Mashhad - Lucknow - Xichang - Jeju - Kushiro - Eareckson - Anchorage - Saskatoon - North Bay - St John's - Lajes - Paris.I didn't plan much of it ahead, except that I had to cross the pacific ocean via alaska (only way for a plane with limited range) and that I'd use Lajes instead of Iceland, since it's more unusual. All in all it was a fun experience, and I'm now looking for other challanges since it gives me a break from the ordinary A-to-B-and-back flights. One stop I'd recommend for you to make is Kathmandu in Nepal. There you can make a fly-by of Mount Everest and see the rest of the Himalayas too, which is a very impressive sight.

>Try this site for a set of flight plans for a RTW trip>http://www.dmcity.com/slarty/that site looks to be exactly what I'm after, although a lot of the legs seem a bit long. I only have a limited time on flightsim as work takes up my time during the day, and my boy takes up most of my time during the evening. This leaves me with just an hour or two in the evenings so I need the legs to be short and sweet. I know this will leave me with hundreds of legs, but like I've said, I just plan on doing it one leg at a time, and I'll probably carry it over to FS10 whenever that comes out and continue from there. So far I've planned about 80 legs, which take me from England, down the west coast of France, through Spain to Portugal, Straight down through 1 stop in Gibraltar then onto Morroco. A few islands off the coast take me back into Spanish territory then its Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Liberia, Cote D' lvoire, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Angola, Nambia, South Africa. the from south africa it's back up north through Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia.I want to then back track a little to the west to cover europe, italy, switzerland, germany etc before continuing East.

If you have the time and want to see as much of the world as possible, then this is the site you need to visit. www.gigaquad.com "hopping round the world" All flight plans files are available here at avsim. Have fun.gorton
