  1. Do you have GamerOSD installed? It is (if I remember it right) some kind of screenshot utility (it has an icon in the task bar). It came bundled with my card and it made most games unplayable for me. Uninstalled it and everything worked perfectly.
  2. Thanks a lot!
  3. I'm wondering if anyone knows how I might get rid of the aurora borealis effect in FS9? Although I liked it at first, now it mainly annoys me, especially when it shows up over places like Denmark and southern Sweden (Irl it's very rare here, but in FS9 I see it all the time). Also something is wrong with the effect on my system, sometimes causing it to follow me down as I descend, sometimes even all the way down to the ground. I'll happily try any suggestions.
  4. And so again: Many many thanks for your help, without which I'd still be clueless concerning this issue. An earlier attempt to ask this question was more or less ignored so I really appreciate that you take the time to give such in-depth answers.
  5. Thanks for the links!Actually the problem has occurred in both prop and jet aircraft which is why I didn't specify what type it was. "No, FSEdit will mangle anything you allow it to load."Indeed! I never use it. When I'm editing .cfg files I use notepad. The .air file editor from www.aircraftmanager.com is still freeware. However it asks for the location of my FS2002 directory. Will it still work for FS9?
  6. Nope, that's not the case for me. I always press F1 after applying parking brakes since my throttle control is... not very accurate. :)No, I believe I'll have to learn how to edit .air files. Question is, what should I use to edit them? FSEdit can only edit .cfg files as far as I can tell, or am I mistaken?
  7. Greetings FSAviator! Many thanks for your reply, it was most helpful!"ii) failing to operate a ground condition, or other engine rpm, lever correctly"Let me assure you that every lever, button, crank, pulley, switch and pedal is in the correct position. I'm not very good at developing aircraft, but I am, by now, a fairly experienced virtual pilot. I would not make the mistake of leaving the throttles at 50% thrust and then wonder why the plane is still moving. :)"iv) many other errors perpetrated by consumers who then blame someone else for the result."Partly true, except that I'm blaming nobody. I'm just looking for the answer to a question. In some cases I have caused the problem myself through fiddling with the .cfg file (usually because the power required at cruise speed is off the scale. It's much less irritating for me to have a plane that crawls over the ground at idle than cruising at 104% N1 in an A330.), and in some cases the problem has already been there when I've installed the aircraft.I will attempt to modify the .air file in the way you suggest.
  8. Thanks for your reply! However, that's a solution I want to avoid, since I don't want my aircraft to have super effective brakes when I land it. :)
  9. Hey!I've noticed that many aircraft tend to slowly "crawl" forward when parked with engines running at idle. The problem usually goes away if the aircraft is heavy (fuel and/or payload), but there are many other aircraft with even better thrust/weight ratios which are not crawling at all. Is this a problem that can be corrected in the .cfg or .air files?
  10. Edit Voicepack (www.editvoicepack.com) enhances the ATC and gives you the option to speed up the wav-files. Works great and is freeware!
  11. I'm using AVG Free and Sygate and both work very well. I choose Sygate since it's less taxing on system resources than Zone Alarm and still seems to do what it's supposed to.
  12. I would be most interested in flying one (or more) of these races you talk about. Will keep an eye out for info on your site to see what's about to happen!
  13. I recently did a Round The World trip in a BAC 1-11 500 (from DM Flight Sim). It has a rather limited range, less than the Lear Jet, so I had to make a number of stops along the way. I almost always used the range available (using quite a large fuel reserve), but I had to make a few shorter flights to set up the ocean crossings safely. The route I used was:Paris - Nice - Beirut - Mashhad - Lucknow - Xichang - Jeju - Kushiro - Eareckson - Anchorage - Saskatoon - North Bay - St John's - Lajes - Paris.I didn't plan much of it ahead, except that I had to cross the pacific ocean via alaska (only way for a plane with limited range) and that I'd use Lajes instead of Iceland, since it's more unusual. All in all it was a fun experience, and I'm now looking for other challanges since it gives me a break from the ordinary A-to-B-and-back flights. One stop I'd recommend for you to make is Kathmandu in Nepal. There you can make a fly-by of Mount Everest and see the rest of the Himalayas too, which is a very impressive sight.
  14. 1. Nope, but it has happened to me at other airports. One soultion is to increase the sim speed to x8 and then immediately decrease it to normal speed. This will make FS regenerate the AI traffic, hence the aircraft blocking your path will disappear. I don't like this solution though since it takes away some feeling of realism.2. No, never.3. It has happened to me a couple of times actually. Twice at night in really, really bad weather with close to zero visibility the ATC has cleared an aircraft ahead of me for landing, then the ATC clears me for landing, I overtake the other aircraft and we crash. Also, I have crashed just like you did and since most of my planes don't have a TCAS I've had no warning. Tough luck I guess. :)
  15. I agree. This arguement always seems to be about whether there should be just the VC or no VC at all in the next version of FS. Why can't there be both and everyone will be happy, right?Even if developers (freeware or payware) decide to include just one of the two, someone else will always create the other type of panel so everyone will still get to fly all the aircraft.

One of David Maltby's planes, probably the BAC 1-11 500.
  17. Mr. Maltby's planes (VC-10, Bac 1-11 and the Trident) were some of the very first planes I downloaded after purchasing FS9 last october, and I've logged many, many hours in them since. They remain my favourite aircraft to fly.
  18. I agree. They really make great planes!

I have the default ATC and I don't even get wind advisory. Have you installed any ATC upgrades?

I am not resisting change and I am not opposed to VC panels, as long as there's a 2D alternative. Yes, VC panels might be the future, but right now the VC alternative doesn't live up to the standard I would require to use it.

There's no way I'm gonna read all the follow-up posts to this topic, but I agree with everything Andreas said. My situation in a nutshell.

Again, thanks for the info!I do take everything I read in papers with the scepticism it deserves, but I still hold my doubts about the safety on low-budget airlines.
  23. I have never experienced this particular ditch you're talking about, but I have encountered them elsewhere. I use default scenery, so it seems to be a bug in the game.

Thanks for the explanation! But isn't that considered unsafe? I mean, fuel on the taxiway...
  25. Yes, I believe you're right. Let's hope they don't build it too close to an airport. :)
