Hello all.I am going to remove my Norton Internet Security as it may be interfering with FS9. I see AVG Anti-virous plus firewall is new.Can anyone advise me if this would be a good choice. Many thanks.Rex.

i use AVG free edition together with Zone Alarm Pro and i'm happy :)cheersTom.

I use AVG and am quite happy with it. Hasn't caught anything on my system, but then it hasn't needed to. I like it for it's small footprint and ease of use. And it updates at least once a week (more often of course when the hacker idiots are making more ugly stuff).Another to look at is AVAST. Two very good freeware options. There have been posts on this subject in the past... a search will yield more discussion.Cheers,Greg

I went through this about a year ago. Norton seems to have shifted it's marketing focus away from the type of person that knows something about computers to people that have no clue. Spent a couple weeks trying out different products trying to find those that have small memory footprints and good detection rates. For what it's worth, I can recommend.Antivirus - NOD32 http://www.nod32.com/ (not free)Firewall - Sygate Personal http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm (free)Spyware - Sunbelt COunterSpy http://www.sunbelt-software.com/ (not free)AntiSpam - Cloudmark Safety Bar http://www.cloudmark.com/ (not free)Matt

The two IT guys at work say that most Free virus protect programs cost what they are worth. When I dumped Norton off my system, I got Trend Micro-PC cillin and it works very well. Updates are almost daily, and FS9 runs so much better. Does firewall, and antivirus , all in one shot. http://www.trendmicro.com

I'll second Avast (Home) too. Freeware with minimal FPS hit.Another good program that works well with your antivirus is Secretmaker. (www.secretmaker.com) Also freeware & has many all-in-one features such as pop-up blocker, spam recognition, cookie eraser, spyware/intruder protection (acts as a firewall) etc.Cheers :)Josh

Try Avast, it protects your computer, your email, and while you're switching stuff, you might also want to consider trying Firefox browser.Avast FREEWARE virus Protection:http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.htmlAnd see what virus Bulletin says about Avast here, and then question why you need to pay for something else. I believe as of June 2005, Avast has a 100% rating. I point this out because some like to brag about VB's ratings, so I figured I would pre-empt that. :-)http://www.virusbtn.com/Freeware Web Browser, then try Extensions such as ad-block, tabbrowser preferences, and noscript, as well as spellbound, a spell checker:http://www.mozilla.org/firefoxI use to use AVG, but now recommend Avast as a better alternative, IMHO. Rated very high, and doesn't cost anything either. Much to gain but nothing to lose with Avast, IMHO.Good Luck,Joeaopa.gif" border="0" alt="Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

Sounds like your two IT guys at work our a bit biased. But hey, you spend money where you choose to, and I'll keep using the Free Stuff, and when it doesn't work as well as I want it too, I'll find another one for free that does. This concept has worked for years for me, and I see no reason to change now.But then again, I'm not listening to biased IT guys at work either. ;-)aopa.gif" border="0" alt="Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

I spend a good part of daily work for research of security related things. My advice is: if you want a good antivirus which outpaces almost all others, get McAfee. If you like to put one more on top of that, get Kasperski in addition.Nothing beats these two in detecting in the wild viruses. But there's more to do to stay on the safe side: a good application level firewall (Kerio, LookNStop, ZoneAlarm et.al; take a look at www.wilderssecurity.com, in the "other firewalls" forum) -- hope you already use a well configured hardware perimeter firewall with stateful packet inspection -- anti-trojan (I recommend pest patrol), and at least protection from rootkits with e.g. DiamondCS' ProcessGuard. But I don't suggest to install all that onto your FS9 gaming machine since it slows down the PC a lot when active. If you can afford it, get a cheap 2nd PC for surfing etc. and let the better PC do the FS9 stuff (it doesn't need that protection then since you use it only for gaming offline).Andreas

Avast here.. very nice program. I find it updating itself daily quite regularly.

We're running Kaspersky on hundreds of machines and are happy with it. I also run it at home (as do most of us who work for the company) and it keeps me safe.As someone else said: with free AV programs you get what you pay for.Either it's a demo of a more complete commercial product, it's not well updated, or it simply doesn't work.

Hi againThank you all For the the information,I now have something to work on.All the Best Rex

I too use only free ware...and guess what.. The Adware remover from Microsoft was finally the one that helped clean up my system.
