Really bad fps, really good card....confused...

Featured Replies

Hi all,I've been struggling recently with really bad fps in fsx and assumed that my bottle neck was my graphics card. I was using a gforce 8800 gts, and was getting about 8-10 fps using pmdg's new ngx. A friend at work had an ATI 5970 lying about and said I could borrow it to see if that was the issue, and then buy it off him if it was.I installed it, along with a new power supply, and it has made no difference at all, still running at around 10fps. My processor is a quad core 6600 on a fatality fp9 board. All the latest drivers are installed. Where am I going wrong, or is this simply the best I'm going to get from this setup?Any help would be much appreciated.ThanksBen

Hi, if you list your complete system specs, harware and software, including the route you followed in tuning the system, I am sure you will get good advise. Boudewijn

Yep list your specs and also the Fsx settings.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses.Bearing in mind I'm a bit of a novice at this, is there a simple way of me downloading my system specs so I can put it on here? I figured that you'd only need my motherboard, CPU and gpu. I have 4gb of ddr3 RAM too.I'll put my fsx specs on here once I'm home from work, but I was trying to run it on the medium settings. Reading up on it I'm guessing I need to check my AA settings. I'll see what they are tonight. Thanks,Ben

Your Q6600 is bottlenecking the GPU in FSX

Overclocking your Q6600 would likely help... many 6600s will go to 3.2 GHz with stock cooling (from a 2.4 factory clock)

Hi, Thanks for your responses today. Just looked into over clocking, but I don't think my motherboard is gear up for it very well. I have read on other forums that it is pretty much a waste of time. I tried all the same, and I can barely get anything more out of it before it crashes lots. Tried running FSX, and had a glance at my system monitor (something I hadn't done before), and it is running my CPU at 97%, so I'm guessing you are right. I think the only affective course of action is to bite the bullet and get a new CPU. Is the i5 the way to go? If so has anyone got any recommendations on a motherboard? Thanks again, Ben

Do you have GamerOSD installed? It is (if I remember it right) some kind of screenshot utility (it has an icon in the task bar). It came bundled with my card and it made most games unplayable for me. Uninstalled it and everything worked perfectly.
