  1. I received the PDF version on February 6. The paper version has not arrived yet in The Netherlands.Boudewijn Swanenburg
  2. I set it up only for FSX. FSX itself is set at infinite. I run FSX on all 4 cores (I7 950 running at 4.2 GHz now and affinity mask at 15 - could ofcourse delete that). In addition I limit other programmes like RC4 and AS2012 to run on cores 1, 2 and 3. So core 0 is free to run the most demanding threats for FSX.Whith heavy scenery and plane (e.g. NGX and PNW) I actually don't need any limiter. But with default scenery and default plane fps without limiter would jump around a lot and cause stutters. At present I have the NI limiter at 60, simply only to avoid stutters in too easy conditions.Works very well. Compared to the internal limiter it does not reduce the frame rate at all.Boudewijn Swanenburg
  3. For the time being use the exelent tutorial by Trisager http://forum.avsim.net/topic/350242-ngx-cold-dark-to-shutdown-checklist/Boudewijn Swanenburg
  4. I had the same problem. All my controls are normally via FSUIPC. In FSX I have unchecked the "controls enabled". After installation of AS2012 this "not enabled" was changed, at some point in time, into "enabled". As a result the axis assignment was totally screwed up, with two different assingments competing with each other. Flying on AP was OK, but at some point I manually moved the throttle and this was causing the ailerons to move at the same time, resulting in uncontrolable bank angle. After this happend three times I checked the axis assigment on a different plane (default Cessna) and then I discoverd that the FSX setting had changed. It seems that AS2012 modifies fsx.cfg.I suggest you check the FSX settings through the meneus and or fsx.cfg.By the way: AS2012 is simply briljant. Thanks a lot HIFI!Boudewijn Swanenburg
  5. +1Absolutely correct.
  6. Reading User's Guide and downloading AS2012. Realistic flight and realistic weather are one and the same thing.
  7. FS Assistant is again available in the App Store with version 1.1. The CDU option has been temporarily removed pending release of the NGX SDK.Apparently CDU support for more CDU types is in the making.Boudewijn Swanenburg
  8. I cant say I tested every possibility. You can certainly control the FMC. It seems to react fast enough. Have been modifying my route during flight. What I noticed is that on certain pages (LEGS, PROGRESS) not all text is complete, some collumns appear to be missing. It also did not show existing flight plans under te Co-Route entry, although it is reading the correct pages (as evidenced by the PMDG FMC display itself).I emailed the developper. Will let you know how things go.The app also includes flightlanner. Puts flight plans from routefinder directly into the PMDG flightplan folder. In addition it manages all the charts you have in PDF or HTM. I have not used that, as I still have to import my charts via iTunes.Boudewijn Swanenburg
  9. Have just been trying FS Assistant. It is not perfect yet, but works smooth and certainly is extremely promissing.Boudewijn Swanenburg
  10. Well, this is not what I would call a formal review. Nevertheless, if anyone wants to know, I enjoyed the lesson on emergency equipment a lot. It may not help my simming at this very moment, but having learned for instance how fast the oxygen supply will run out when needed, I anticipate I'll have to learn a lot before I can timely handle the emergency when it eventually will occur. Now I have a better feeling also for why we do all those 'silly' checks before we move the throttle forward. With the captains package, I figure it will be less then 1 $ per lesson. What more does one want? Oh yes, the next lesson within a couple of weeks or so. Boudewijn Swanenburg
  11. For the time being this is as good as any, or better: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/350242-ngx-cold-dark-to-shutdown-checklist/ Boudewijn Swanenburg
  12. Thanks many times for this encyclopedia on flying the NGX. It now sits permanently around the corner on my iPad. The best reading while struggling against a 100+ kts headwind from KPDX to PANC. Boudewijn Swanenburg
  13. Without AOA you have a game, with AOA you'll get a simulator! Boudewijn
  14. Hi, if you list your complete system specs, harware and software, including the route you followed in tuning the system, I am sure you will get good advise. Boudewijn
  15. Vista 64 home premium. Runs smooth.
  16. 1) Yes. Early byers should expect to be part of some surprises. I am sure that if everybody had applied the advise given in the introduction to the letter, at least half of questions and critisism would not have been written. I myself tried a few short cuts. Don't.2) Yes. If you can handle their 747, this one will really fly.3) No. I have autogene allways at normal, because any hihgher I don't find realistic.
  17. Sure there is. Radar Contact 4 (RC4).
  18. Thanks a lot guys for your feedback.I will reinforce my cooling system. In the meantime I have reduced Vcore to 1.225 and VQPI to 1.27 V giving a stable 3.95 GHz OC. Temperatures are down by some 8 degrees, with FSX staying below 70.Thanks again,Boudewijn
  19. I have been wondering about the behaviour of my core temperatures since almost two years. I have a I7-950 (see signature) on an Asus PT6 motherboard using a Thermalright 12UE cooler, recently equipped with a bequiet SilentWings fan (120mm, 1350 rpm) within a Lianli A70 case (plenty of open space inside).Overclocking settings: 195x21, Vcore 1.275 V, VQPI 1.325 VI am performing stability tests with OCCT (1hr auto) with the following typical results:Room temp: 26 C (we have the warmest Easter since the Big Bang)Core temp idle: 52 C (GPU temp during idle period: 40 C)After 5 seconds of full OCCT load: 68 C – a 16 degrees jumpAfter10 minutes the core temp settles around 84 C.Equally, the RealTemp sensor test shows a 17 degree C movement with this brief stress test.My question is: could the initial rapid temperature rise (16 C in 5 seconds) be an indication of a poor thermal bond between CPU and cooler. As I did not build the rig myself, I would hesitate to be taking it apart unnecessarily.Boudewijn
  20. Between the DA Cheyenne and the Duke D60 for me the Cheyenne has the most character. Fly it quite often.
  21. I noticed that the topic of drastic wind shifts in relation to weather programmes keeps popping up, unfortunately in many cases without a clear clue or solution. After searching this and other forums I finally came across this link: http://forums.simfli...p479798#p479798As clearly explained by Pete Dowson in the second entry of that tread, the cause of the wind shifts does not originate in the weather programme (ASA, ASE, REX) but in FSX. There is no perfect solution, just compromises like using global weather mode in ASA/ASE or wind smoothing (see for instance http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/index.php?topic=7222.0 ) I would suggest to the developers of weather programmes to acknowledge and explain this inevitable shortcoming publicly. That would possibly save a lot of desperation.Boudewijn
  22. New drivers + http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=291734 Boudewijn
  23. Are we sure that we allways make fair comparisons? It is my experience that changes in nHancer, like changing AA or AF, only take effect AFTER restarting FSX. Also I have the impression that once you have also made some kind of quality adjustment through the nVidia control pannel, you are no longer sure what setting you end up with. Remedy for controled testing and reporting effects: uninstall and re-install nHancer and quit FSX and restart after every change in nHancer settings.BNS
