REX 4 1024 vs 4096

Featured Replies

Since 2.5 my VAS usage has gone up alarmingly, I can hardly finish a flight, not even short hops in PNW are a problem. Now I'm trying to free up VAS and turned resolution down from 4096 to 1024, but now my REX 4 runway textures are getting so bad, it's really disturbing to look at. It seems more like there is no resolution left at all.

Left 4096, right 1024:

For starts, a resolution of 1024 should give a sharp pictures, I've seen way lower resolution with way better quality than is seen on the right side of the picture. Is this normal, as in do other people have the same?

And what can I do to make 1024 resolution usable? What is seen on the right side of the picture is of course not an option.

Cheers!

Maarten

Have you tried 2048 px? I would also drop the resolution of your clouds to 1024 or even 512.  I did that and I actually like the clouds better than the HD clouds, not to mention performance is better.

Cheers,

Todd

When Soft Clouds was released I've seen what that difference does, indeed and since I've only used 512 clouds. Only airport ground textures get so blurry when not in 4096. Also in 2048 they look so unrealistic.

But this week I did a reinstall and measured VAS after every addon. With leaving out some less important addons and especially FTX Vector, I managed to get VAS down by over 600MB total. So the dangerous places where I already started with 3500-3600MB used, I'm now just under 3GB, so for now I my sim can handle the extra hit from the 4096 REX ground textures enough to keep me flying. ;)

Cheers!

In reality you will not see the sharpness like you with 4096 textures....
