Any tips on setting the default to a different airport in FS9?

Featured Replies

I have given up attempting to alter the default start point from KSEA to another favourable airport.Even though, tips tell you that this is possible, in reality it isn't?Or, am I doing something wrong?Dave T. .........On the lovely warm Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/

I don't know about FS2004, but in FS2002 you can do the following:1) Go to the airport of your choice, and select the "Save Flight" screen.2) Enter the relevant information and put an 'X' in the box labelled "Make Default"http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/121748.jpgThis flight will be the default "startup" flight from now on :).

Or better still, uncheck the `make default` box then you can select the flight of your choice from the start menu - you can save any number of starting positions, time of day, year, weather, aircraft or airport. Allcott

Don't know about anyone else, but I've had trouble in FS9 with trying to save a flight and making it the default flight. It doesn't work. What I've found I have to do is go ahead and save the flight (check the box or not, it doesn't matter) and close the sim. Then open the sim and go to "select a flight" and select the flight I just saved. Now check the "Make default" box and load the flight. Next time you start the sim your new default flight will load to the "Create a flight" menu.Alternately you could open your FS9.cfg in Notepad and manually change the "SITUATION=C:Documents and Settings{Your Name}My DocumentsFlight Simulator Files{Your default flight}" line to the flight of your choice.Jim

Hi Jim,I did what you suggested but on................. > Now check the "Make default" box and load the flight. Next time you start the sim your new default flight will load to the "Create a flight" menu.http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/

On rebooting the sim, choose `Select a Flight` - your default and any other flights you named will be there. Choose one and you're good to go.Hope this helpsAllcott

Dave,Proberbly your fs9.cfg is Read-Only. Go to the place where it is and change the properties of the file (I assume you know how to do this).Then:- Go to FS9- Go to your favourit airbase- Make your cockpit dark (turn off all power)- Save the flight (make sure you don't have a flightplan loaded, else clear it before saving)- Make the flight the default flight (tick the box as mentioned before)- Save it- Exit FS9 and start and you must be your airbase you saved. If this does not work, remember the filename you saved before.- Go to you FS9.CFG- Search for example for the next section in the FS9.CFG file{USERINTERFACE} <-- BracketsMAP_ORIENTATION=2PAUSE_ON_LOST_FOCUS=0PROMPT_ON_EXIT=1SelectFlightLevel=0SelectFlightTitle=0PageID=3OpenATCOnCreate=0SITUATION=D:Documents and SettingsJeroenMijn documentenFlight Simulator FilesAlex <----- CHANGE THIS FILENAMEDisplayFuelAsWeight=0- And save the file. Now it must be good. Check it by starting FS9.Regards,Jeroen van SchoneveldVelserbroekThe Netherlandshttp://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpgASUS A8N-SLI, AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2,4 Ghz) San Diego processor, 2Gb DDR 400 Mhz Corsair Mem, ASUS V6800 Ultra 256 MB video

>Your alternative suggestion is unclear. FS9.cfg and 'Flight>simulator' files are both seperate.>>It would seem to be 'impossible'?What I was getting at is that your default flight is specified in your FS9.cfg on the "SITUATION=" line and is a reference to a flight that you have saved and set as default. Currently it must look like this:SITUATION=C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9FlightsotherFLTSIMWhich points to the file: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9FlightsotherFLTSIM.FLT", which is the default flight in the C-172 starting at KSEA.Don't know why the sim isn't letting you change this, but you can try manually changing it by opening your FS9.cfg in Notepad and pasting the path & filename (leave off the .flt extension) of whichever flight you would like to set as default and save. Here's what that line in my FS9.cfg looks like for example:SITUATION=D:Documents and SettingsJimMy DocumentsFlight Simulator FilesA380 at KGEGWhich refers to a flight I saved at one time in my Flight simulator files folder named "A380 at KGEG.flt"As Jeroen noted, if your FS9.cfg has somehow become "read only", that would explain why you can't change your default flight. The sim writes to your FS9.cfg and saves it every time you exit the sim.Good luck,Jim
