Fuel to Remain Time

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Yesterday I decided to try a #1 eng fail at V1. I selected the 777-300 in P3D at LHR, selected 350 ton GW, Max fuel load, approx 150 ton. Took off 27L, eng 1 failed at V1, I continued the takeoff, the thrust assy control upon eng loss was incredible to see. Made handling the dead eng so much easier. I then cleaned up and entered a hold. Carried out the eng failure chk list. Decided to fuel dump and return to LHR. I had set up the A/C option for auto MLW fuel dump option. So it automatically worked out I'd need 48 tons left to be at MLW. Fuel dump commenced, however the issue i noticed was that the fuel dump time said 400 mins! It stayed on 400 min until centre tank was empty then went from 400min to 10 min!

I played around with manually selecting fuel to remain, and this made no differnece to the 400 min. Not sure why this is the case, a possible theory is that i had a route discontinuity, as i had entered KJFK as arrival airport, but not entered a full route, as i was never planning on flying to JFK.

Cheers

Full names in the PMDG forums please Neil.

I am not surprised at the time required to dump fuel, given the rarity of this event the jettison pumps are probably not any heavier than they have to be. Regarding the estimated times, I did the first thing I always do when I don't understand something about the aircraft:  I looked in the FCOM.  See beginning at pg 12.20.17.  It mentions that when aircraft is heavy with forward CG it will drain center tank first, suspend jettison of main fuel and increase time to remain display.  Not sure why it jumped from 400 min to 10 min; I'd expect something different too.  Maybe a bug?  Were you watching the fuel synoptic and did you see all tanks decreasing or just center until the jump from 400 to 10 min?

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your reply. Fuel dump on the 777 is approx 2 ton a minute. Max fuel is approx 150 ton. To dump 100 ton should take approx 50 mins. I had the fuel synoptic up most of the time. Fuel dumped from centre tank first then outboard tanks. As i say, time stayed at 400 mins until centre tank was empty, then time dropped to 10 mins. Dump was continuous from centre tank to outboards. No pause.

Cheers

Again, full names please.

I suggest you document your findings in a nice ticket at PMDG Product Support.  This kind of thing, once verified, will be in a TODO list but only if in the bug tracking system. Thanks.
