Weird Lighting

Have anyone seen this issue before? The lighting suddenly suddenly switches "on and off" when moving through different view angles.

The sim I use is P3D V2.4, no time to move to 2.5 yet though I am pretty sure its the same on 2.5.

HDR on or off ?

As you change the angle of the light source the dappling effect will change. The focus point is the aircraft, so as you rotate the external view you change from `over the shoulder` to `in your face` light emanation point, and this is read by the textures and lighting effects applied to the visual model.

If HDR is on, have you modified it ? I've noticed that a number of tweaks shorten the timescale to apply the lighting changes, accentuating what you see here.

If HDR is off, have you got DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=0 set in the Prepar3d.cfg ? It's a tip worth implementing if you haven't as there seems to be changes in the implementation of external lighting in the newer graphics of P3D that doesn't sit so well with some of the carryover features from ESP/FSX.

HDR on, Not sure about tweaks to HDR, but I am 95% sure that is default 2.4 shader files.

The issue itself is actually a bit random, seems to be a combination of a few things to get that. My current thinking is that if its a bug, then it might be a bug in the math of the light projection in combination of cloud shadows, viewpoints and etc

As I already closed the sim, I will retry again to get the same issue, and try with HDR on and off.

It's also time of day dependant, as the orientation of the light source changes.

Same here. HDR off and dusk smoothing is on.

This lighting problem is biggest (almost the only) complaint I have with a fresh new install of latest 2.5 build. No tweaks. (well thats not completely true, there is the frequent "sprite" clouds flashing in and out of view).

Other than that, I'll take P3D over FSX any day.
