FS9 will not start...Any Help????

Featured Replies

This is a first for me. I am searching the forums as well, but I was also hoping someone else has experienced this and has some advice. I recently reinstalled FS9 with: Mega Scenery Volumes 1,2,3 and Denver; ASV; the Feelthere PIC-ERJ; and Squawk Box 3. No problems for week, in fact I flew online last night with the best performance ever. Now FS9 will not start. The opening screen flashes for a second and the CD is read and then is stops. No error message, nothing. Just won't start. What do you all think? Thanks.

Hi, I had a similar problem last year; I tried everything, including re-copying the FS9.exe file from the CD and deleting the one in the FS9 folder, but still had no joy. I eventually had to download a file that allows fs9 to run without the cd- but it isn't a perfect solution. As well as other problems, I can't run the patch MS released because the patch will look for the original .exe file. So my only conclusion is that something somewhere is corrupted but without a complete re-install, I'll never know! Cheers!

Hi, here's a longshot. Search your file system for a file called FLTSIM.FLT - mine is at C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9FlightsotherFLTSIM.FLT and double click it. Hopefully you will start FS in Seatle default configuration.Spackle:)

Still no go. This is driving me nuts as all I want to do is fly and many towers are stocked on vastim. I have been reading the threads regarding this subject and have tried many of the tips, but still no go. I have:- All the latest drivers- DirectX 9.0C- The Patch for FS = FS9.1- Tried deleting the CFG file, but loading still would not occur. The new FS9.CFG file was blank after trying to load. I did save a copy of the last one.The kraziest part of all is that I flew online last night. No problems at all. I came back to the computer today (my fianc

I'd try either a reinstall of DirectX or a complete reinstall altogether. Had the same problem a while back and had to do just that. I didn't think of DirectX until afterwards...

This has happened to me before, and I was able to fix my situation. Two quick and easy things to try, erase or hide the Previous Flight saved .flt - you'll find it in My Documents/Flight Simulator. If that doesn't work, erase or hide the fs9.cfg file, and let fs9 rebuild it.Good luck.* Orest-~~~~~~~~~Orest Skrypuchwww.united-virtual.comUAL1445 Staff ORDFO

I would do the following before any reinstall:1) Check out the scenery.cfg and make sure it's not "corrupt" (Area/Layers out of sequence).2) Disable your latest installed scenery addon's by going into the scenery.cfg and changing the active line from true to false.3) In Windows XP goto the application event viewer within Administrative Tools and see if there's an event for this failure. A solution to the problem may be recommended if there's an event.I think you have a hardware conflict, either video or sound card problem.Hope this helps.Jim

Hello, what version of FSUIPC do you have? When you did the reinstall, you might have an old version which could be causing a problem with the newer add-ons you have istalled. Just a thought. There are SO MANY variables with FS9 that can cause issues as you already know, so trial and error, 1 step at a time. Good luck with your problem. Best regards, Jeff

Nuts...Nothing worked. Thanks for the responses though. I did notice that when I was trying to play a video from the Microsoft help sight that it was too bright and not right at all. I uninstalled my Video Driver (NVIDIA 6800) and the video worked fine. I reinstalled the latest video driver and it went back to being too bright. I then installed the new Beta driver and video worked fine. FS still does not work. I went to the event log in administrative tools per suggestion and it showed errors each time I tried to start FS (without any suggestions or reasons, however). I am out of ideas, but I think at least if I reinstall maybe it will work as video now works with the Beta driver. What I still do not understand is how it worked fine last night, did not touch my computer until today and then...nothing. The FS Gods are out of their minds! Wish me luck and i'll report back.

Reinstalled and everything works (excepet for my FPS). Can not quite remember some of the settings I had, but I will.

She did something to it!!!Peter Sydney Australia

Peter, that is so funny!!! That is exactly what I asked her. I thought maybe she hired some programmer to disable FS so I would not be flying so much. Then I figured that would be counter-productive as I have spent all evening dealing with this. Although, I am growing very suspicious of her...:-lol
