October 3, 201510 yr Does P3D 3.0 have updated magnetic variations or are we still stuck with 1993 (FS2004) data? Its a shame if LM didn't take the effort to update as these variations are critical and can determine if your ILS is a aligned among other runway updates. Do we still need to update magnetic variations with the data compiled by Herve Sors? http://www.aero.sors.fr Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
October 8, 201510 yr Author It looks like the data isn't updated and Herve Sor magnav files can still be used. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
October 8, 201510 yr Commercial Member No it's not updated, and even if you do update... that doesn't ensure your aircraft will fly the values on a given plate as the mag variance used for a plate may not be the local mag variance but rather a mag variance assigned to a given navigational beacon (VOR, as example). The values can be different. I've run into this many times in the real world where the local mag variance applied to a true course value would result in the wrong course result for a plate. So... while you want things updated... it's not an assurance you're going to see everything correct... just runway headings. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
