FS RealTime Error 339

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I am still dumbfounded as to what to do with this. I had FSRT installed on W7 64-Bit and it worked great. I have since upgraded

to W 10 leaving all installations as is. Everything works except FSRT. I get error 339. It says COMCTL32.OCX or one of its de-

pendencies is missing or not correctly registered. I have since;

1. Uninstalled (with registry remover as well) and reinstalled. Last one is 1.97.11

2. Re registering all OCX files mentioned in the irunin.dat file

3. Re installing Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 (which is now the new Common Control 5.0 I believe)

Running in various compatibility modes icluding letting Windows 10 try to solve with its troubleshooter.

Nothing..... Error 339 keeps coming with the same error over and over. I sent an e-mail already to the developer

but haven't heard back yet. Maybe you guys can point me in a new direction.

Make sure you are running FSX in Administrative Mode.  Go to the main FSX folder and right click on FSX.exe and select properties.  Click on the compatibility tab and look down near the bottom and make sure "Run as Administrator" is checked for ALL users.

Take ownership.  Go to the main FSX folder and right click the folder and select Take Ownership.  First though you will have to download and run TakeOwnership.  See page 9 of the AVSIM CTD Guide (link in my signature).

Make sure you have the latest version (believe it is 1.82).

Do not try to run FSX in any compatibility mode.  This is certain death of FSX starting or running properly.  Only check that FSX is run in Administrative mode under the compatibility tab.

I see you tried to register the comctl32.ocx without success.  That is one solution found on the Internet but it is strange that you would have to register this module.  TakeOwnership might be better.  Of course, if you have UAC turned off when you install FSRT and your anti-virus programis also disabled, it may install properly.  Windows security usually looks for dangers and "saves" you from evil people by blocking any registrations in the registry.  This is an old program and the reason why Windows 10 security would be scared to death to install this module properly.  You must fight these people who try to save you from evil doers.  Disable your anti-virus and UAC when installing anything (unless you have absolutely no idea where the program came from and why you are installing it).

IMHO, this program is buggy even if installed properly and many have not received any support from the developer (when it is freeware, there really is no obligation).  Think it was originally made for FS98.  Here's one link about some problems associated with this program - http://www.avsim.com/topic/409198-fs-real-time-issue/  .  Anyone who doesn't want to update their programs to modern times and makes sure it works 100% of the time should make any user wary of issues.  Trying to make an old, old program work in the 21st century is surely dangerous.  In Windows 10 I doubt you'll ever get this program to work.  That's my two-cents.  Uninstall it and go fly.

I may be wrong but I do not think you have to register any files, just place them inside the folder of the app you are running. I have not had issues with fsrt and emailing the developer in the past he has given quick and great support. I use the program mostly for the timezone updates.

Thanks for the reply guys. I will try to troubleshoot some more. In the meanwhile Joshua replied. (My email was overlooked in his sea of mails ;-) ).

Cheers,
