August 20, 200520 yr Hi,I have a rather silly issue. No matter what the weather is, it is always raining in the VC view. I've read the docs, and I noticed that you could increase or decrease the rain effects from the interface, but I didn't see any way of turning it off. I tried pressing the decrease rain effects button, but I didn't see any change.I installed it by installing to an empty directory, and then moving the files. I'm wondering if, since I installed the Challenger, Goose and Apache at the same time, if one of my .fx files is not correct.Any thoughts? Thanks,Thomas
August 20, 200520 yr Hope this helpsRegards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir Internationalhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/125120.gif Best, Michael KDFW
August 20, 200520 yr Same here, I can't turn them off. I'm still trying to figure out why Bill L's planes are giving me studders.
August 20, 200520 yr As I noted above, I read the docs (including this pic). Pressing either rain effect+ or - had no effect.Thomas
August 20, 200520 yr You have to hit the "button" several times for it to work. It's not a one-hit on/off thing.
August 20, 200520 yr What does the rain effects button do? Why is it raining in the VC view when it's not raining outside? Is it supposed to be raining no matter what and it is the user's job to turn it off?As further note, in searching the panel.cfg file, there is a reference in VCockpit 17 to a gauge rain!raing. I cannot find a rain.gau file anywhere. There is a rain.xml file in the goose.cab file, but no reference to raing in it. Could this missing gauge be the issue? I hope this isn't coming off as whining. I'm shocked that Bill has released these files for free. Thank you, thank you. I'd just like to know what is going on and hoping somebody out there can help me.Thomas
August 20, 200520 yr Ok, I got it, hitting the button multiple times did eventually turn off the rain. So is there any way to set it up so the rain effects are off by default? It doesn't seem to remember the last setting. Thanks,Thomas
August 21, 200520 yr I think the rain has been covered by now, but I thought I'd address the stuttering problem you mentioned. I had severe stutters when flying either the Challenger ultralight or Bill and Lynn's TriPacer. I got them both to smooth out completely by getting rid of the radiocd gauge (that CD deck that's installed in the cockpits). After that, they're smooth as glass. Must be a problem gauge on some systems, although I can't pinpoint why. Maybe that bit of surgery would work for you, too.
August 21, 200520 yr Did you install the water textures they offered? I tried them, but then went back to whatever I was using before (not default, but I don't know where they came from) and going back to my previous seems to improve performance somewhat. In fact the textures I am using are twice the size as Bill's, but perhaps the performance hit has to do with the oceanheight file. Turning off the rain helped quite a bit with the Goose as well. But I still get fairly poor performance with his planes. But then again, I don't have much for hardware - Dell D800 laptop, 1.7 GHz Pentium M, 64 MB nVidia 4200Go graphics, 1 Gig mem. Normally with most stuff I fly I get around 20-24 fps (locked at 24) with occasional drops to 15. With the Goose and Cub, it often gets down to 5-8 fps.I also added the AI stuff he gives, so that might be pulling me down, plus I run with most of the sliders maxed. If I played with that stuff, I bet I could do better.Thomas
August 21, 200520 yr I wonder if it's really rain or if it's meant to be water splashing up on the windshield while taxiing in water. That was my take on it. The problem I have with the Goose is the 2D panel takes SEVERAL seconds to load every time I change views. No problems with the VC, tower, or spot views.Still a very nice gift from Bill and Lynn and I'm enjoying it along with the Luscombe.Jim

August 21, 200520 yr Thanks Bill, you're right !I went into the panel cfg's of the Challenger ultralight and the Goose and commented out the gauge with //'s and things smoothed right out. Especially noticable with Active Camera on the fly by.This was the entry for the Goose's panel. [Vcockpit11]//gauge00=radcdgs!radiocd, 0,128,128,128I'm going to do it to all his nice airplanes that have it.
August 21, 200520 yr Perhaps you did this, but you may want to be careful. There are other gauges after this one in this section, and by just commenting out the line, FS may not read the panel.cfg file correctly. Did you renumber the other gauges in that section?Thomas
August 21, 200520 yr I just downloaded the Goose so now I know what to do thanks to the nice replies in this thread...many thanks to you all :)---------------BTW...did I mess something up or does the TriPacer come *without* a 2D cockpit? Dont get me wrong the VC is fantastic...I was just wondering because when I first loaded it up no 2D panel appeared hee hee. Thanks! :)****Awaaaawaaa I reached 1000 posts***** http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/kao/otn/pcheerleader.gif
