Why do a/c "bounce" on runways in FS?

Featured Replies

I just landed a POSKY 744 at KSEA flawlessly and at about IAS 100 during the rollout, the a/c shuddered like it had hit an earthquake on the runway and nearly crashed. The earthquake ceased at about IAS 80. I've observed this "earthquake effect" on other FS default runways, but it is inconsistent. Why does it happen in the first place?JS

HiIt happens to me whenever I do the default kiosk flight 737 on final into KORD. At first I thought it's maybe when a runway crosses a big LOD tile or something else scenery related but then I've only ever heard of it happening at big airports. I might try an alternate AFCAD file one of these days but otherwise would like to find the reason too.P.

Does this happen in the external spot view?

I don't know if it happens in SPOT view but it does happen in the 2D cockpit view. It is most bizarre, annoying, and stoopid!JS

were you completely on the ground rolling at 100 knots? rollout is a take off term.

This is a common problem and seems to ocurr with a wide array of aircraft including high end payware particularly at KSEA and in all views.Bruceb

But is there any known cause/reason for this moronic aspect of an otherwise superlative sim? Just curious (even if I can't fix it...)JS

Hi JS,No it does not happen all the time. I use to have it with some old freeware planes I use to fly that had poor air files. A couple of days ago I flew my PMDG 738 into the new FlyTampa SEATAC airport and experience no problems what so ever.I have flown the PMDG 738 all over Europe, North America and many spots in Asia with both freeware and payware sceneries, and have not seen any bounce on landings, except when the pilot (me) made a bad landing (LOL).Again my suggestion would be check for an updated air file for your plane.CheersBob

Bob:Hmm, that is interesting, an updated AIR file..? It doesn't happen all the time to me. It seems to occur randomly; I've experienced it once in a while in the still pretty new LDS 767-300 model, and also in a couple of POSKY 747s. It has happened at the default KSEA field in particular several times.Do you know what elements within the AIR file might be responsible for this? Do you think this is therefore more of an a/c specific issue rather than an MSFS scenery issue?Appreciate your post, thanks.JS

your problem is probably an afcad2 issue. download afcad files from the library here, or my recommended site is afcad.projectai.comthat should fix your problems

also check for duplicate afcad files.scanafd.zip in the library here will fix all your troubles with duplicates. Be careful though as it also thinks taxi-way signs and some required bgls of add-ons is a duplicate afcad so don't delete unless you are really sure!

KSEA has some well known "holes" in the runways and taxiways - which can cause a crash on the default airport with the default aircraft. The higher your realism settings, the greater the risk.I haven't heard anyone found the complete answer, but the last I saw was that there appear to be more than one flatten / base for the airport. Runways do not have a flatten effect on the terrain, like taxiways and aprons.Re: "rollout" - that is a specific mode of the flight process which occurs on the runway as the aircraft slows. During the rollout phase the aircraft is assigned a parking spot - for both AI and user aircraft. One of the ways some folks have been able to speed up AI aircraft exiting the runway is to move this speed from 20 kts to a higher speed. Once the aircraft clears the rollout phase of flight it moves to the taxi-in mode of the flight.
