August 30, 200520 yr Probably the wrong place for this (if so, my apologies). I just got done making a donation to the local Red Cross for relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Even so, I still feel for those people, and want to at least make some kind of gesture conveying my well-wishes for the victims.A cheesy notion, but I was thinking that Avsim members could make a show of caring by making flights to the affected areas, then use Duenna/flight analysis/equivalent to prove your efforts. Feel free to include the virtual mission your aircraft is understaking (ie - Medical Supply Transport, Food Transport, etc). For my part, the Concorde is coming out of retirement. Due to severe flooding in Louisiana, G-BOAG has been taken out of mothballs and is being prepped to transport critical engineering personnel to New Orleans. Departure time from KBFI is 01:30 hours Zulu, with supersonic restrictions temporarily lifted for the flight.
August 30, 200520 yr If this is the wrong place to post a plea for helping the people during this catastrophy, then this is the wrong place for me.....
August 31, 200520 yr I agree with both you gentleman. Both well said.A heart, and a sense of humanity should not restricted to any one area, but rather to be expressed where ever it can do good. Regards to you both VIN
August 31, 200520 yr May I suggest the following, which differs from other charities, even some with famous names. This one will ensure your funds will go directly to this catastrophe.http://www.salvationarmyusa.orgWhat this means is you can specify what use your money goes to. And it is better to know your money goes to actually help then not knowing and having it used for something else. You can also donate to the Salvation Army through your local Wal-Mart store.Help where you can folks, and say a prayer as well. August 31, 200520 yr See no reason why this thread shouldn't stay where it's at, however I request any threads related to this with screenshots be posted in the screenshots forum. Be sensitive though that some may not understand or express their sympathy through the sim as you have. Some react to very serious situations like this by denying themselves the usual distractions like MSFS so they can focus on helping in their own way, or focus on dealing with their family and loved ones.-John
August 31, 200520 yr Thanks John. I'm glad you understand the motivation behind this. In no way is this making light of the situations in Mississippi and Louisiana. I like to think of it as an alternate means of expression from all here. Just to say 'our thoughts and prayers are with you all'.
August 31, 200520 yr The Governor is talking Total evacuation of New Orleans. 80% of New Orleans is under 20 feet or more of water. Hurricane Katrina went right up the Mississippi river valley and you know where the water is going to wind up ? Yep..... It going to get worse as the rain comes down river. They are talking months to get back to normal. I say years. I live in Florida. We are just getting back from the Hurricanes of last year. Some still have blue roofs here. Just getting water and food to all those people is going to take a mamonth effort. My heart aches for all those people.Joe WatsonLake Placid, Fl.http://home.comcast.net/~raptor67/Joe_W/Joe_sig.jpg Joe Watson Lake Placid, Florida
August 31, 200520 yr Author >My heart aches for all those people.Indeed.My prayers are with them and God bless 'm.Those affected,as well as those there to help.cheersJP.
September 4, 200520 yr My thoughts are with the people so badly hit by Katrina, but also with the Emergency crews overthere fighting to safe as many lifes as possible. It must be a warzone in that area. Lets hope all will find their beloved back save and sound.Tino BroekstrasimFlight.nl
