Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have clean installation of Windows 10 and clean installation of FSX Steam Edition (I didn't install "old" FSX before Steam Edition on this clean system).

I opened I opened simulator several times and three times had error like this:

One time just after start up (on splash screen), here are details:

fsx.exe

Since today I installed FSUIPC, DX10Fixer, FreeMeshX, ORBX Global and ORBX Vector, but one of these errors appeared even before installing above addons.

According to the AVSIM CTD Guide (see link in my signature):

Kernel32.dll - The kernel32.dll belongs to system memory management so consider it like an out-of-memory (OOM) crash.  Reduce your settings.

MSVCR80.dll, MSVCR90.dll, or MSVCR100 – belongs to Microsoft Visual Redistributable C++ 2005, 2008, 2010 respectfully.

  • Run the Microsoft.net Repair Tool – Whenever you get a Microsoft.net error or Microsoft Visual C++ error (faulting module), run the Microsoft.net repair tool.
  • Uninstall FSX SP2 if installed, uninstall it via the Windows Add/Remove program (it will not remove FSX, just SP2).  Restart your system.  Reinstall FSX SP2.  Restart your system.
  • Uninstall FSX Acceleration if installed, do the same procedure as for SP2 except remove Acceleration, Restart, install Acceleration, Restart.  These actions will not remove your configuration files like FSX.cfg, scenery.cfg, dll.xml, exe.xml but if you want to be safe, back them up first.
  • If the above does not work, uninstall Microsoft Visual 2005, 2008, or 2010, as appropriate in your Add/Remove Programs.  Go to the website (see section above regarding Microsoft Visuals), download and reinstall.

PMDG_737NGX.dll

  • Check throttle or controller connected to your computer.  Make sure you are using the drivers that came with the device. Might be a conflict using FSUIPC utility control features for your controller.

Hi Jim,

thanks for your reply.

Ad. Kernell32.dll

It's strange. I have nearly the same configuration as I had before reinstall system and simulator. I only don't have entries UsePools=0 and AffinityMask=14. Also TEXTURE_BANDWITCH_MULT now is =160 (this is default FSX:SE preset), earlier I had = 40. However, I don't know if should I change anything in CFG file in FSX:SE version :/

By the way - does the HIGHMEMFIX should be in CFG file or not? In the Internet there are different opinions... Personally I don't have it in CFG file (I mean: this fix was not present in CFG in original FSX.CFG file in Steam version).

Ehh, It had to be much more better with FSX:SE, but I have more errors now then on Vista and boxed FSX

Ad. MSVCR80.dll

Ok, I'll try install all versions of Visual C++.

Ad. PMDG_737NGX.dll

I have Saitek X52. On Saitek page there are drivers for Windows 10. I dowloaded them a few days ago, so I assume that they are actually. However, there is a note they are beta, but the only issue I observed that every LED and MFD on joystick flashes many times when system is starting, but in simulator, everything works fine.

I have registered FSUIPC but didn't use it to configure controller.

In other posts there is suspicion that UIAutomationCore.dll file can cause the problem... maybe should I delete it or paste older version of this file?

Regards,

Lucas

More issues are fixed when one rebuilds the fsx.cfg.  This means there was a bad tweak and/or too high settings.  I understand the default Texture_Bandwidth_Multi is 160 and I would not change that.  If you go to the default fsx.cfg settings, see if the problem(s) go away.  If so, be careful in the future if you try to add a tweak or change a setting.

I heard this "fix" is no longer needed in FSX-SE configurations as the fix was made in the FSX.exe.

It is my understanding that FSX-SE used Microsoft Visual 2010 for installation of their program.  FSX used Microsoft Visual 2005 w/SP1.  Some FSX addons use Microsoft Visual 2008 w/SP1.  MSVCR80.dll belongs to the Microsoft Visual 2005 w/SP1 package.  I know that FSX will not start up if you remove Microsoft Visual 2005 even if you have 2008, 2010, or 2012 installed.  You have an updated version of Microsoft Visual 2005 (8.0.50727.9193).  Normally, Microsoft Visual 2005 w/SP1 is v8.0.50727.6195.  Windows Updates or Windows 10 updated it probably to 9193.  I cannot find your version on the Internet.  I do not know why you have Microsoft Visual 2005 installed on your system.  Perhaps you have FSX installed too?  Perhaps you are using something that come with FSX and installed it in FSX-SE?

The solution to the PMDG_737NGX crash comes from searching the Internet and the only solution I know about right now.  If it continues, you will need to go to the main PMDG website, logon and submit a trouble ticket.

The uiautomationcore.dll in your main FSX-SE folder was installed by DTG.  It comes with the product so do not remove it as they must figure it is the only one that works with FSX-SE.

No. I did clean installation FSX:SE on fresh Windows 10. I installed PMDG NGX - perhaps this addon install C++ 2005

My C++ installations are:

You have the correct versions of Microsoft Visual 2005 installed.  You say it only shows this error when you shutdown FSX-SE so I would not worry about it.  Eventually it will go away as all crash errors do as you change things in your configurations including your system BIOS settings.  PMDG NGX uses Microsoft Visual 2010.

There is no "magic bullet" to fix your crashes.  If the solutions provided did not work, then you have to conduct an investigation.  To conduct an investigation you have to move your fsx.cfg, scenery.cfg, and dll.xml to a temporary folder.  The fsx.cfg and scenery.cfg will be rebuilt to the default.  The dll.xml is not a default file so it will not be rebuilt but it will tell you if there is something in this file that is causing your crashes.  You won't be able to use the NGX unless you go into the dll.xml and disable each module as explained on page 3 of the AVSIM CTD Guide.  The fastest way to find out if there's an issue with the dll.xml is to simply move it to a temporary folder.  It is not needed to run FSX-SE (but needed to run the modules shown inside the file).

Once you move the dll.xml, fsx.cfg, and scenery.cfg, you are back to the FSX-SE default configuration.  It's easier doing this than reinstalling FSX-SE.  If you still have errors, then there is probably something wrong with your computer system or you installed FSX-SE with UAC and any anti-virus program running (this should never be done).  You must also make sure you are running FSX-SE as the administrator for ALL USERS.  If not, then you will have problems.  There is so much security in Windows 10 and Windows 7 as Microsoft wants to protect you from evil people who might hack your system.  Now, you have to eliminate that security for FSX-SE and all of the addons or else you will have problems.

Hope this helps.

...to be sure, I also installed VC 2008 both x64 and x86.

...and any anti-virus program running (this should never be done)

Yes, I read about it, so I added exception in my AVG.

You must also make sure you are running FSX-SE as the administrator for ALL USERS

I know about it, but I'm not sure if I run FSX as administrator. From the shortcut, which have been created while installing FSX:SE, I can't run as administrator, because when i click on it right mouse button there is no option "Run as Administrator".

Jim, your posts are very helpfully. Thank you very much.

Lucas

Try this.  Right Click on FSX in your Steam library and click on Properties. Click Local files  Click  Browse Local Files.  This will bring you to your FSX install location.  Right click on the .exe  go into properties, then into Compatibility and tick the box Run as administrator,  hit ok

That's a bad idea - part of the security in new versions of Windows is that you keep UAC on and don't run everything as Admin.

I can keep UAC on, and run FSX without admin rights quite nicely and very stably. FSX-SE installs outside of Windows' Program Files folders so there shouldn't be any need to run it as admin or turn off UAC.

Any FS add-on that cannot run without Admin rights or with UAC is by definition broken. We've only had this security model for what, a decade?

Cheers!

I was so frustrated with this happening to me so I had to make an account just to post my successful fix. What I had to do was go to compatibility on the FSX eve and run the compatibility troubleshoot and then launch.
