September 23, 200520 yr Hey DonnyYou & I are nearly neighbors. I live about an hour north of you up near Wilkes-Barre. I use KAVP as my home base. I fly the area (in sim, not RL) frequently & have always been disappointed to see the Lehigh running up the side of the mountain. I have been considering the Roads, Railways & Rivers package from FSGenesis to see if that may help. Otherwise, I just have 38M mesh for the whole of the USA from FSgenesis. The terrain looks fairly good with the mesh, but I just hate how the turnpike comes up over the mountain instead of through the Lehigh Valley Tunnel.BTW, I have a customer down in Walnutport, it's a nice little town down there.Jim
September 23, 200520 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!Hey, it's good to live near other simmers. I have a friend near Reading who has a basic cockpit with 42 inch screen. I know one Avsim member lives in Allentown. There is an AMA remote control flying club (Lehigh Valley Radio Control Society) that has an extensive support network for newbies, including being able to be trained on a club plane for a period of thirty days for the ridiculous, astronomical sum of ten bucks. :-) Edit: When I'm flying local, especially with IFR weater, KAVP is a favorite destination. Pulling an engine just after liftoff from runway 36 in a piston twin can be very... interesting. Have you found anyone that got the way some aproach lights are built into the mountain right?Hey, someone would get at least three sales for a more realistic Lehigh Valley!Anyway, I'm into chess too, in any case I'm enabled, feel free to PM or E-mail me.Best Regards, Donny:-wave
September 23, 200520 yr Unless there is a really stiff wind from the N, AVP generally only uses runway 4 & 22, 36 is almost never used (only seen it once) and that was day time, not lit for night landing. I modiffied the AFCAD to shut it down in the sim, I didn't like flying over the skiers in the wintertime! The AMA club you talked about used to host float fly's off of Beltzville Dam, sadly I just started float flying last spring & haven't ever attended one down there. I have jet skied on Beltzville, but that was years ago.Next time I'm headed down that way, I'll drop you an e-mail.Jim
September 23, 200520 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I do a lot of stuff in the sim I wouldn't do in real life, I am doubtful runway 22 is within minimums with 200' ceiling 1/4 mile vis for my usual avionics, in the planes I usually hop around locally in. I like 36 cuz it's the shortest and has an "aircraft carrier" feel to it. When Floyd passed thru, for a few days they were flying floatplanes at the club!Lookin' forward to your e-mail:-wave
September 23, 200520 yr OK... OK... I admit it, everything I said previously is total BS.Once I did get the program to run properly (for reasons I'm not sure about), I must admit it is very nice. A very definate improvement in fact. The night lighting along with the landclass is quite spectacular.I just did a nightime run from Rimrock, Arizona to Sedona. I could not believe the reality of this trip. Even an interstate rest area just outside Beaver Creek was properly depicted. And the boundaries of the landclass were quite real flying up north to Sedona.I really don't know why the roads were obscured by the landclass textures at first, but whatever was out of kilter just self-corrected when I moved all the display sliders up to max. The immediate change was quite evident and appears permanent no matter where I set them now. This program is a definate keeper. Thanks to all the posters. Your insistance that this was a good program is what kept me going to get it working correctly. I just knew the users (and fellow avid simmers) of this forum could not be wrong when they said this was a good one....Bob (Lecanto, Fl)
September 23, 200520 yr While I agree that Ultimate Terrain improves the simming experience all around, I wouldn't necessarily advice wasting time reporting any issues to Allen. There is one outstanding issue that I consider to be rather major and has been in UTUSA since version 1, which is the flooding of a large portion of Cuba as well as a number of Carribbean islands.I posted on Allen's forums expressing my concern and expected that he would agree and promptly fix it, but I was instead greeted rather rudely by "Allen's fanclub" as well as Allen himself. His advice to me was this--remove UTUSA. And all of his supporters told me that UTUSA was so great that there was no way to improve it. So I don't have any idea whether he intends to fix this glaring problem but I've been waiting for several months now.Sorry to make this into a somewhat off-topic rant but it's important to know what you are up against before expressing any disatisfaction to Allen.Derek D.

I would sugguest you go and get the 1.2 update!!The problem wasn't he didn't want to fix it, it was he needed to find a source of data to fix it. As you can imagine, a country like Cuba detailed data is hard to come by. He finally found a source that had data similar to what MS used. I think you were a little harse. If he had the means to fix it, he would have probably that day! I've seen major problems, and someimes not so major problems that were reported fixed within a couple of hours of the report. He's a one man developer, he has no help other than the user base, he does the best he possibly can, so try and cut him some slack!! Edit: I just went back to read the posts on Cuba, almost everything you just stated is completely inaccurate. In your very first post (You only had 2), you accused him of withholding this information before release of the product, which he assured you was not found during testing. He never said he wouldn't fix it as you accused him off, he just said, he didn't have the data to fix it at the time, but he would come up with something, but it wouldn't be a quick fix because he needed to find a source for the data. (Which he now has fixed the problem) He also never told you to uninstall UTUSA. He told you that if you wanted to fly over Cuba in the interim, you would need to disable UTUSA and restore FS2004 Default scenery. There is a toggle in the Setup program to do this. It's a few seconds process. Uninstalling was never neccessary!! Also you said it was months, since this was reported. The first post on the isue was July 9, your first post on the subject was July 15. The 1.2 patch became official on Aug 20th, and was released as a test patch 2 to 3 weeks before. So how is that months? Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
September 23, 200520 yr I just checked his updates page and it appears that he did fix the flooding problem. It wasn't well publicized (the main page makes no mention of it) which is why I probably didn't notice, so I guess I will have to retract my statement about having to wait "several months" and change it to having to wait about "1 month".Nonetheless, I will have to stand by what I said regarding Allen's demeanor. Although I stand corrected on him telling me to "uninstall" UTUSA (my memory isn't so great these days) he did say "disable" which is an equally unreasonable suggestion considering that I paid money to USE the product. You will notice that a majority of his response to me was devoted to downplaying the issue, as well as trying to impress me with the quality of his data. In short, he was actually making every effort to make me feel guilty for bringing up the issue. He hardly even discussed the technical aspects of the issue itself, which is why I wasn't filled with much confidence that he would ever try to fix it. You point out I only made 2 posts on his forum, well that is easily explained because I certainly didn't feel welcome enough to post further.I know that Allen is one man, but having already experienced fantastic service from developers at other scenery companies (Justin of FSGenesis comes to mind) I guess I was "spoiled" in expecting that Allen would be capable of the same.Derek D.

He never said that, in fact in every post he made prior to that (and the thread about Cuba, which came before it) he explained he was trying to get it fixed but said he needed to find the data to do this, so it wouldn't be a quick fix. He tried to explain that to you but you didn't give him a chance. As for him saying this only affected a small percentage of users, you're right he did. That is because it did only affect a small percentage of users. I don't think you're going to find a large percentage of users, who fly around in the US that fly around Cuba, remember this is UTUSA, not UTCuba. For those that do he provided an interim solution. Without the neccessary data to fix this right away as you demanded, Disabling UT if you flew around Cuba was the only option. This is unreasonable? As a permanent solution I agree with you this would be unreasonable, but as an interim solution, it was perfectly reasonable. Remember it only takes a few seconds to do this. I've seen products with problems and interim solutions (and sometimes permanent solutions) that was much more disruptive. Quite honestly, you didn't give him a chance!! Below is the thread in question!!http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_post...TID=12601&PN=10 Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
