June 16, 20169 yr PMDG 737ngx fresh FSX-SE install 27 fps, fresh P3D v3 install 13 fps, WTH? Recently found out about the existence of FSX Steam Edition. I had stopped flying FSX when I started flying DCS A10. So I figured I should start flying PMDG 737NGX again, and also obtained P3D hoping for progress since the - in hindsight - mediocre days of FSX ‘stutter’ graphics. Fresh install of both FSXSE and P3D, fresh install of PMDG 737NGX. Used FSXSE to tinker my setup hardware, Warthog HOTAS and VR MCP, when installing P3D v3 I copied the hardware setup and about the same scenery settings (2048 vs 4096 bits scenery, Ultra dense scenery, sparse Autogen, 5% traffic, FSUIPC, simconnect, TrackIR, 2 monitors), and OPUS real live weather (real life fog and clouds are a hit on frame-rate) at the same airport Rotterdam X runway, PMDG 737ngx virtual cockpit does ~27 fps on the FSX-SE install, only ~13 fps on the P3D v3 install (which results in the horrible ‘mini stutters’ at take-off) WTH? My setup is previous generation OK-ish - Asus w. Intel 2500K overclocked @4200, AMD 7970, 16 GB RAM, Win7 x64 on Samsung SSD, flightsims on new hard drive. What am I missing? or is Prepar3D another ‘high-end systems only’? June 16, 20169 yr Could be your 7970 thats overloaded in P3D. P3D has offloaded alot to the GPU from the CPU meaning that if you hit more than 99% on the GPU load your FPS will drop. The sliders in P3D is NOT equal to those in FSX. Start med normal settings and no shadows at all. I remember i had the 7970 back in the FSX days (with alot of artifacts and stutter) but only for 2 weeks before i changed it to the GTX780 back then and what a differents in FSX. Now that GPU is only for "low to medium " settings in P3D In Flytampa - EKCH gate A20, with ASN,REX4,UTX Europe 2.1, 2048 textures i am getting 56fps in the NGX with 10% AI traffic (5 road and 5 AI) That is more than i could achieve in FSX with the same CPU (and now my settings is almost maxed in P3D as well) Welcome to a new sim which require new hardware if you want the eyecandy and progress Michael Moe I7-4770K@4,6 GTX970 SSD500GB EVO850 W10 64 16GB DDR2400 Michael Moe
June 16, 20169 yr Author after some more searching I put P3D on 'high' CPU setting PMDG 'performance' texture on 'low' no shadows that helped a lot ~17-18, which to me is the bare minimum I think 7970 cannot render the (bigger) textures of P3D fast enough Intel 2500K | AMD 7970 | Win7x64 | 16GB | TV 40" | Touchscreen 22" | HOTAS | Rudder | MCP | FFB Joystick | FSX-SE | Prepar3D | DSC A10
June 17, 20169 yr after some more searching I put P3D on 'high' CPU setting PMDG 'performance' texture on 'low' no shadows that helped a lot ~17-18, which to me is the bare minimum I think 7970 cannot render the (bigger) textures of P3D fast enough P3D uses nvidia CUDA cores for some of it's rendering. With an AMD card it will default to a less efficient method (I forget what it is). This might explain some of the drop you see. gb. YSSY. June 17, 20169 yr Also keep in mind that the sliders in FSX are not 1:1 with the sliders in P3D. AI traffic, Level of detail radius (LOD) etc are all significantly increased in P3D. In some cases, max sliders in FSX equates to the same graphics standard as P3D when set to around 50%. June 22, 20169 yr Author Think I had put PMDG VC textures through NGXPerfMan to 'low resolution' (tad blurry) well, did it again, perhaps not the right path previous time P3D options lighting shadows and graphics now back to high FPS from ~18 to 45-55 waddayaknow Intel 2500K | AMD 7970 | Win7x64 | 16GB | TV 40" | Touchscreen 22" | HOTAS | Rudder | MCP | FFB Joystick | FSX-SE | Prepar3D | DSC A10
