Modifying Airport

Featured Replies

Hello Guys,

Well I gotta admit Im not an expert on this topic when it comes to modifying an airport in FS.

But the thing is, I tried to extend the renewed runway (length and width) with the AFCAD editor, the problem is that the AFCAD editor created the new runway extension under the Airport area (Pretty much like a layer) and also it created it with different textures than the original portion of the runway.

What could be the best solution to this?

Thank you in advance guys,

Rafa

It might be worth trying Airport Design Editor freeware:

http://www.scruffyduck.org/

It was created with knowledge of the FS9 SDK which was not published when AFCAD was designed. ADE is more compatible with freeware and commercial software that follows the SDK rules. In ADE you first edit in a project environment, test, and if OK, compile to a .bgl. If you need to change your design you edit the project items and then compile again. ADE has facilities for opening an airport direct from a .bgl (including default stock), importing separate items from a scenery .bgl into your project, and other needs.

AFCAD is known not to import many types of scenery items that ADE will handle. Perhaps that is where some of your problems lie,

Give it a try by skimming the manual, importing from stock or your scenery, modifying items, and then checking the runway properties for elevation, surface type, etc.

Another type of problem that affects layers is the rounding of elevation parameters. Some airport designers lay down a base surface layer polygon and then create the runway at a slightly higher elevation over that.

Skim the ADE tutorials to get an idea of the procedures and see if the expanded tools fit your needs.

The issue of landscape being above a runway can usually be resolved by placing and "apron area" under the runway too. Taxiways and aprons will "self-flatten" landscape but runways will not. AFCAD, AFX and ADE should all be capable of achieving this simple task.

However, your comment regarding different textures for the runway rather suggests (although you have not said so) that you are working with an add-on airport rather than an FS-supplied one. This makes it rather more difficult, if not impossible, to amend them as some add-on airports use non-standard methods of runway construction.

Hi John,

Well yes, you guessed it right haha, Im trying to work on an add-on airport. I´ll try doing it as you recommended by placing the Apron Area under the runway.

Thanks
