Might be the massive zoom but they look to be very short is runway time.

 The zoom lens certainly does make it look closer, but I guess it comes down to each users perception of what's actually required.  Was it IFR separation? It certainly doesn't look like it, but seeing as it was an airshow I highly doubt that either aircraft was IFR. Looked pretty safe to me.
