F1 MD-80 NOT WHAT I EXPECTED .....

Featured Replies

I know my statement will not be popular, but I will stay with Lago Maddog for now. Why ? Because the Autopilot in V1.5 is excellent. Smoothly regulating IAS mode, smooth Altitude captures, fast reacting Autothrottle, speeds get held very exact, AP does exactly what it should in LNAV and VNAV. One remaining issue with LOC intercepts, but it's not that much a showstopper. Can't say that from the Flight1 MD for now. The IAS mode is totally screwed up incl. altitude captures from that mode. And what I have seen in the approach phase, the obviously used FS default autothrottle seems insufficient for that type of plane. And the FDE in the Lago plane is more consistent. EPR values and pitch attitudes during takeoff and cruise in the Flight1 are not consistent yet.I know it's not a fair comparison, because the Lago plane needed quite some time to get there with patches and the Flight1 is just released. Also Lago seems to have cancelled all forum support, so I wouldn't even recommend to buy it. But I do not understand why the Lago plane itself is made so bad almost everywhere. It definitely isn't.The overall concept and atmosphere of Espens plane is very, very sympathic, so I hope the Autopilot will reach a similar state in future.Mike

Huh? I would guess that if you're planning to intercept a localizer, then this is, well, a big problem. Secondly, the reason why people are angry with Lago is because Lago has offered very little support - I own the MD80 myself and the questions I posted on their forum were never answered. Ditto for hundreds of other simmers who posted. Thirdly, the initial release was buggy as ####. It took Lago three patches and 9 months to address issues. Fourthly, the visual model released with Lago's plane is substandard; you had to use the included Jetcity aircraft, which were visually superior but, alas, were not compatible with Lago's virtual cockpit. If memory serves, Lago promised compatability - not sure whether that promise was ever delivered on. Fifthly, Lago released this plane without an English manual.Sixtly, Lago promised but afaik never delivered a tutorial. Frustrated simmers had to use an Italian tutorial, later that Italian tutorial was translated into lousy and mediocre English. The MD80 is a complex aircraft, very different from the usual Boeing and Airbus type cockpit layouts that most of us simmers are used to. Hence, you do really need a good tutorial. ...In contrast, Flight 1 offers all of that and more. The integrated learning system is a brilliant idea in terms of making a complex cockpit work; the visuals are very good, and Espen is aware of the various teething problems. Most importantly, support is outstanding. There is really no comparison between the two. As you yourself say, it's pointless to waste money on dealing with Lago's crappy company policy.ricardo

Ricardo,I was just comparing the plane itself in the state I have them on my disk right now. With the two for me most important issues FDE and Autopilot. That powerful plane is a challenge for Autopilots, e.g. the important IAS Mode or smooth altitude captures. The Lago Maddog does an excellent good in this regard. Others have other priorities, that's fine ;).As I said, my sympathy is also with the Flight1 MD and I cross my fingers the AP will come to that state as well. If it takes a month or half a year or whatever, I don't care :)Mike

EDIT: sorry, I found my answer... I removed the rest of my post. I was looking for riva tuner as Tom mentioned. Best regards, Jeff

Hi, Are the gauges used on this plane protected so that they cannot be coppied? Ive tried to add afew of the MD-80's gauges to another panel using FS Panel Studio and when i press paste nothing comes up, also if i select the gauges from the list of all gauges they come up in Magneta coloured boxes called "hotspots" which i dont quite understand. Also how do you disable all the gauges from showing up on startup? I too am wating 5 minutes for the plane to load up. The plane is ok, i love the sound effects and call outs and the flashing lights like when you disable the AP, its just a shame you cant copy those gauges. Hate the FMC never going to use it, using FsNav at the minute which is good enough i guess, just wondering why when i turn the AP off the plane wants to shoot upwards? Also where the #### are the stablisers? Everytime i try to take off it says stabliser! even tried the training centre and it still says it. Here is a link where i posted my problem about the gauges, it includes a screenshot.Thanks.http://forums.flightsim.com/dc/dcboard.php...mesg_id=156#156
