When things go too far

I enjoy tinkering and adjusting stuff in my simulator but I couldn't help but to laugh when I saw an addon for a recent commercial shake n' bake scenery creation software. It listed among many things a chainsaw (?!). You gotta ask yourself what kind of simmer, one who takes his aviation interest seriously anyway, would want with scenery objects that do not even remotely have bearing on aviation.I think it is because of stuff like this that our spouses, girlfriends etc won't fully respect our hobby, because the above mentioned things are toys in the purest sense. I would say it is very much like a kid's doll house where you can move around furniture and little figurines and toy pets (and chainsaws). It is childish and I genuinely blushed when I saw it.I'm in the process of unspoiling myself by pulling back some of the sliders in the display settings after a botched attempt to land the PSS A340 in Madeira with 3 - 4 fps. I take my simming seriously and I need performance from my system if I'm to successfully fly commercial addons that require skill and concentration. I will not be requiring a 12000 polygon humanoid chopping firewood next to the runway when I'm on finals. We are all different (thank goodness) and variety is the spice of life and we don't have to use certain software if we don't want to. Some may prefer to use their simulators as massive Barbie doll houses... but personally I'm in it for the flying.Kris

I have to agree, Kris. I don't know what I would do with a chainsaw. I bet the virtual passengers would freek if I exited the cockpit door with a screaming chainsaw. :DSome of the items I see in the library and in other places do seem a bit obsurd to me. You are right though, "Variety is the spice of life". I do get a kick out of some of the items in the library and appreciate their contribution to the hobby. :DKevin

Using a chainsaw isn't any more or less childish than pretending to pilot a 747. Basically, FS9 is one big MMORPG - and the addiction to it is the same as the addiction to, say, World of Warcraft. FS 9 is a game and not a procedural trainer. There is a reason why it's installed in the "Microsoft games" folder. ricardo

LOL x10That's the beauty of "each to their own" I guess. I suppose the "bushies" like to set their cub down on the grass and step out and smell the fresh pine being (noisily) cut up.

As a "bushie", I'd have to say I could see the chainsaw being used. Gotta have equipment to scatter around those logging camps we land in.
