Kernelbase.dll

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My P3D was working fine until the other day when I started getting numerous CTDs involving kernelbase.dll, I know there isn't a definite fix but I have reinstalled my drivers and started a new profile on my PC, I've downloaded AppCrashViewer and this is the last report, please can you decipher it and help find a solution please. I get the errors in Aerosoft and Majestic aircraft but not PMDG.

You should also scan your computer and make sure all of your system files are not missing or corrupted https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833.

Kernelbase.dll is a system file and I think the error is mostly related to your GPU drivers.  If you recently updated your drivers, try reinstalling them.  If they are the latest, go to C:\Nvidia\DisplayDrivers\ and click on the latest drivers and then right click the Setup program and select run as admin.

For P3D, make sure you are starting up P3D with admin rights for ALL users (not just you).  See pages 33/34, AVSIM CTD Guide for instructions on making P3D always open up with Admin privileges for ALL users.

If these suggestions do not work, rename or delete the P3D.cfg and restart P3D and let it rebuild.  You did not indicate you had done this.  There are more suggestions like this starting on page 10, AVSIM CTD Guide for fixing most CTD's/Freezes.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,

I have done everything you have suggested and nothing has worked, I get a crash within 3-5 minutes of a flight loading. Some of the crashes are just freezes and then CTD but some my joystick stops working and then P3D crashes.

Regards

Joe

Sorry to hear you have failed fixing your issues.  It is then best to start all over and reformat your HDD/SSD, reinstall Windows, and then P3D.  This has always worked for me when I could not resolve an unexplained crash.  You can then just run P3D without any addons.  Once you are confident P3D, standing alone, is stable and crash free, you can add your first addon.  Run it until you are confident P3D is still stable and will run the addon properly without crashing.  Then install the next addon, etc., etc.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Before I have to reinstall everything,  I've just have another crash and it came up with this;

Files that help describe the problem:
  C:\Users\Testbed\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\Prepar3D.cfg.txt
  C:\Users\Testbed\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\dxdiag.txt
  C:\Users\Testbed\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\fdr.dat
  C:\Users\Testbed\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\dll.xml
  C:\Users\Testbed\AppData\Local\Temp\WERC0FE.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
  C:\Users\Testbed\AppData\Local\Temp\WERCCC2.tmp.appcompat.txt
  C:\Users\Testbed\AppData\Local\Temp\WERCD8D.tmp.mdmp

does this mean anything?

Regards

Joe

Whenever you have a crash, P3D (and FSX/FSX-SE) makes several text files that were created to help Microsoft figure out what caused your crash.  When FSX was first developed, the FSX developers hoped to have these files sent to them so they could try and figure out why your sim crashed.  So, anytime there is a crash, they made a copy of your p3d.cfg, and did a directX diagnostics of your computer system and created the dxdiag.txt.  The other files have no value.

The dll.xml is the file you should have renamed or moved to a temporary directory to see if this fixed your problem (as shown in the AVSIM CTD Guide).  The dll.xml loads all of your modules developers of addons need to run their products properly.  In P3D (not FSX or FSX-SE), the dll.xml is rebuilt with default entries.

So, if you followed the AVSIM CTD Guide, page 10, you would move your p3d.cfg, dll.xml, exe.xml and scenery.cfg to a temporary directory (there's a dll.xml and exe.xml in the same folder as your scenery.cfg too so you need to move that one too!!).  When you do this, when you restart P3D it will rebuild these files and you will be back to the default of P3D.  If there are no crashes after doing this, then, the problem is in one of those files (most likely one of the dll.xml's or P3D.cfg).

Best regards,

Jim

Sorry to hear you had to reinstall Windows.  Sometimes that's the best solution.  I've done it several times over the years!

Merry Christmas!!

Best regards,

Jim
