Default airport info question

Featured Replies

Flew a flight last night from PANC (Anchorage) to PAUN (Unalakleet). Had all the charts for the a/p. Weather was 2 1/2 in snow. ATC cleared me for the GPS 14 approach. I wanted, and went to ask for the LOC 14 approach. To my surprise, it was not an option! I went to the map view and saw the symbol for the localizer on the map. Pulled up the airport information, and it gave the localizer frequency and heading. Everything was there, but was not an option in the ATC menu. Why did this happen, and is there a way to include it in the ATC options for that airport? Thanks!Rick

Hmmm....didn't see a "Subscribe to this Topic" link to click on. Must be getting old.Oh well, this should work. Like to know the answer myself.ByeTimNZWN

Jim, I think you misunderstand! The LOC 14 approach doesn't even show up on the ATC menu, even though it is on the map and in the airport data. I couldn't even ask for it!Rick

Airport ident="PAUN" name="Unalakleet"Approach type="NDB" runway="14" suffix="0"Approach type="GPS" runway="14" suffix="0"Approach type="VOR" runway="36" suffix="D"These are the only approaches I see in the default .BGL file.

ReggieRick came over to the other forum before I had a chance to post here on why ATC will not assign the LOCALIZER Rwy 14 approach even though it appears to be in the GPS receiver using a green feather (and listed in a default virgin AFCAD).Your analysis of the APnnnnnnnn.bgl is correct with the 3 approaches you listed.FS9 is doing exactly what it is suppose to based on release date of the Jeppesen Approach Charts but I know you already know that. For everyone concerned There are many Approaches in the GPS reciever and sometimes in the default FS9 Navaid List (AFCAD airport) that ATC will not assign to the user aircraft. Reggie, my questions is do you still have some of the older (pre 2004) Jepp Charts (including PAUN) that FS9 used on release?I have purged all of mine with current subscription charts. Need to know if PAUN was a off center Localizer right of runway 14 (not offset) originally using the NDB, VOR and a DMEARC coupled to the localizer approach.Airnav and Jepp shows a updated current Localizer approach that is not off center (2005).
