MSFS and MSTS compatibility on the same PC

Featured Replies

I've seached the AVSIM archive but can't find an answer to this, but it has bound to have been answered before.I have a homebuilt B737 cockpit driven by 5 PCs and using IOCards. On the weekend, as a bit of light relief from hardware building, I installed MS Train Simulator. This was on my main Athlon64 3200+ (XP). After testing Train Sim for a day, I went back to FS2002 and I can't get my AI flights to appear. The ATC slider is still at 100%. I re-complied my traffic.bgl and it is in the correct place. I can still talk to the tower and get replies, but the surrounding AI traffic has disappeared and does not call in?Anyone any idea what MSTS has over-written or removed? I have un-installed MSTrain Simulator and the situation is still the same?Ken

Train sim and Flight sim will never conflict. I used to have both installed and there was no problem at all. There is a problem with your traffic file.

I have both MSTS installed, and FS2002 and FS2004. No conflicts.-John

MSTS is a little old now. Make sure it didnt install an old version of DirectX or mess up something else.

Same here, no matter what I do with my MSTS and MSFS installations neither one has ever caused a problem with the other. It is strange that you are having a problem like this but I am pretty sure that it has nothing to do with MSTS, it is just rotten timing that the problem appeared when you installed it. As the other poster said you may check your Direct X install but I doubt that an older version would install over a newer version. Good luck, wish I could have been more help.Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg

Thanks to all for your input today guys. I'll check the Direct X version tonight. I'm sure I didn't let the installer load an older version. As Philip says, it must be co-incidence that it happened after I loaded MSTS. It was there Friday night but was gone Saturday night. I'll re-build the traffic.bgl again, and keep looking for clues. It's good to know that a few people have both MS products loaded and operating back-to-back. I may now re-install the package and all the add-ons I sourced. It was fun to tour the neighbourhood at ground level for a change. I thought the package was too old to have supporters in the FS community.Once again, thanks for the feedback. I'll let you get back to flying.Ken R.

In the FS2002aircraft directory, there is a file called "default.dp" For some reason default.dp can be deleted or become corrupted. If your AI planes vanish, default.dp should be re-installed from the first FS2002 CD (look in the aircraft.cab file).

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought I had better report an outcome, just in case someone does a search on MSTS latter. I can't blame MSTS for the problem.I re-copied the "default.dp" and the AI situation was the same. I also checked and re-built "traffic.bgl". I started to back track any changes I had made to FS before installing MSTS. I un-checked an Australian bush airfield I had added to the scenery library the night before, and my AI came back! That scenery has now been deleated along with the entry in the Aust airfields bgl (I used AFCAD).I've now noticed my whole world (Australia at least) is around 40 degrees out of wack. ie 737 plane sits on YSCB Rwy 35 (347 degrees) and the compasses/ND read 035 degrees?)Where does this information reside? I have been into the Scenery Library and slowly unchecked each scenery box until I had unchecked all that it would let me, and the plane is still around 40 degrees off in the middle of nowhere? I thought it may have been in the mesh?Any suggestions welcome.Ken
