Kernelbase.dll Causing Crash When Starting Flight

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow flight fans,

Firstly, I'm new around here, and please let me know if I am in breach of any rules which I may have missed. Also, I do apologise if this is the wrong section. Now, I recently bought FSX on Steam to re-ignite my love of aviation, but I have ran into a problem. I've installed a few freeware mods, and installed the REX 4 DLC. I also have a joystick set up, with drivers installed. However, after about a week since purchase/12 hours of gameplay, I can now longer start up a flight. I can start FSX, use the menu and what not, but as soon as I start a flight I incur a CTD, and a beefy 'fatal issue' message. Can I note that I'd been running the game in the exact same state, nothing changed for the last couple of days, not installing anything. I have also updated a lot of my drivers. After searching through a few things, it revealed that the kernelbase.dll file was to blame. However, after trying multiple different fixes, including the UIAutomationCore.dll fix, and the AMD Gaming Evolved fix, I am left at square one. I'd like to try avoiding a complete re-install, as that would be painstaking, but I'll do whatever it takes. On a final note, I've run a Windows install check, and it revealed no issues, so it shouldn't be an issue with the OS itself.

Thankyou in advance for your time and assistance,

-Jacob

Specs are as follows:

i7 4790 3.4GHz

AMD R9 380 4GB

16GB RAM (Samsung)

512GB Samsung 850 Pro (for OS and Steam itself)

2TB HDD (for Steam games, notably FSX)

Hi Jacob,

Firstly, welcome to Avsim and hope you will be able to resolve your issue soon.

Under Hot Spots at the RH side of this page, you can download the FSX CTD Guide.   There is a section on the kernelbase.dll error with possible fixes.   However, I would first run the System File checker in Command Prompt (type   sfc \scannow   note space before  \, and run it as Administrator) to check and repair any damaged or missing system files.

There is also a Wiki article on this error that may help:  http://www.wikifixes.com/en/errors/dll/kernelbase.dll/?gclid=CJ6-6p3F0NECFQxvvAodJeUFKw

As suggested above, the AVSIM CTD Guide, page 32, provides some suggestions for fixing this error found on the Internet.  See link to guide in my signature.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim, I'll have a look at that tomorrow. I ran a SFC scan and it brought up no problems, and neither did my anti-virus. I'm going to do a re-install, and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't, I'll try the whole 'new user' technique. Apart from that, I can't think what would be causing it :( ...

Thanks all for your help and advice, although it turned out that letting FSX create a new fsx.CFG file fixed the problem (for now :D).

Many thanks,

Jacob :)
