January 21, 20179 yr Hell folks i have a question concearning how high heavys should go. Not on long distance but short distant. For instance a 757 is in kord and is needed in kind( indianapolis) just a 176 miles apart. How high will those heavies go for short distances, will they go all the way up to 360, or is there a low altitude height. Thx....................RobertC
January 21, 20179 yr Some real-world examples: http://flightaware.com/analysis/route.rvt?origin=kord&destination=kind From the list I see a B752 flight: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL8841/history/20170116/0750Z/KORD/KIND Barry Friedman
January 21, 20179 yr Author Thx For the reply. Yes sir i see that they do go low. Who would determine that ATC, or is that the norm for low heights. So if im plannig a trip to kind from kord , and i decide to go at say 170, will ATC allow that or will they give me a height for that area. It makes since not to go so high , when flying short distances. I also see where some flights are just 13000ft. who makes that Call, Pilot or ATC. Thx again. RobertC
January 21, 20179 yr It depends on the weights, really. Such a short flight will seldom go over FL300, if ever. Santiago de Larminat
January 21, 20179 yr All based on efficiency. When I flew heavies, we would select the highest we could get for burn, but have a little cruise time to setup and brief arrivals/approaches Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
