What do you prefer Megascenary So Cal 1 or So Cal 2?

Featured Replies

Allright.. since the Megascenary forum is dead for now,I got the Megascenary So Cal version 2. Installed it. I flew with wideview. My left Front view on another computer running so cal 1 and the main computer running the front view of so Cal 2.Did a comparison. The resolution of ver2 is better for the cities. Not sure of the mountains. The colors of the mountains and red/brown tone of ver1 seemed more vivid than the ver1 with its green tone.So I have mixed feelings about version 2.It has given better resolution and color of the cities....but I seem to have lost the red/brown tone which I liked so much abou so cal v1.Hmmmmmm....

Well ves 1 looks greenish not redish, did you mean the other way around? I have not seen ver 2 but know ver 1's coloring, never liked it compared to VFR scenery for N Cali.[h4]Randy J. I meant to say.The resolution of ver2 (southern california) is better for the cities. Not sure of the mountains. The colors of the mountains and red/brown tone of ver1 seemed more vivid than the ver2 with its green tone.No.. version 1 of So cal is redish brown not greenish. If you like the green tone like in N.Cal. then you would love the southern cal version2.

Well, I prefer the colors of So Cal version #1, because the colors looked washed out in rural areas of V2 (especially the browns, need to be a little darker, and its far too green everywhere). However, as far a improved autogen, up to date images(within the last year), object location, larger coverage area, improved mesh detail (38M vs 75M), and detail of the cities with 1 foot images (4.8 resampled) V2 blows away V1. I agree, the color definitly detracts from the previous release. I would give it a 9+ if that was improved. Part of the problem is that the aerial images were taken after a near record rainfall year of 40 plus inches of rain in about a 5 month period. So everything is very green, even in the desert. Not a true reflection of what it usually looks like around here, that is, brown and dry. Usually it is green January through early April, brown the rest of the year. Too bad they dont have Summer and Winter images in V2. Flying with snow in the mountains and green grass all year is going to be a major distraction, but at least they gave us what many asked for, a So Cal re release. You cant blame em for the weather. Fate i guess.I am very disappointed they took down there forums. I hope they come back on line. Bad PR move as far as I'm concerned. Brian S.

Look at it this way, if you already have version 1, you now have a "winter" texture set! ;) Nothing says you can't use version 1 for the summer and then use version 2 for winter flying. After a rainy season those dry mountains do light up with vivid greens, even if for a short while. I'm sure I still get it what with the discount upgrade price.

Forgot to ask, does Ver 2 now cover all of the Palm Springs area? Before the scenery ended right down the middle of KPSP. Would be neat to see some V1 compare to V2 shots posted.

I don't know how to post pictures in AVISM forum. pictures get deleted here pretty quick too i believe. Whenever I read old posts... all I see are x in places of pictures.

Yes V2 does cover Palm Springs and all of the other communties in the low desert. It also covers the communities in high desert as well, all the way to Barstow. Shez Palm Springs fits like a glove (well, not the OJ glove)but its sweet. Its too green, but what can you do. Way too much rain last winter. Hardly rained a drop this year.
