April 20, 20179 yr Hello, I'm working with the P2A demo and trying to do a short IFR flight into an uncontrolled airport (leaving from a towered airport). Everything is great on departure and I'm handed off to center. As I approach my TOD marker I am not given any sort of descent instructions nor any new altitude clearances. The only thing I get is traffic advisories. In fact, I blew by my destination airport at FL170 with no comment from ATC. My route was KEYW - JOVCU - MTH - MNATE - 07FA, no SID/STAR, cruise at FL170, GS 300 kt. I also tried to request radar vectors for a straight-in visual but ATC ignored me. How do I get descent guidance and vectors to the active runway?
April 20, 20179 yr From what I can see, 07FA is an uncontrolled airport. It also does not have IFR localizer but does have some RNAV STAR's assigned. Being a private airport I don't think ATC will give any altitude clearances or vectors to this airport. I think you might be on your own on this one. You might try one of the RNAV STAR's I think you might try contacting the airport on 122.70 for permissions to land. Good Luck

Good Luck Well, 07FA has Class E airspace down to 700' AGL so it's controlled down to pattern altitude. I'm not sure how P2A is supposed to handle this, but in the real world ATC would get me down into the general vicinity so that I could make an approach. I think that if the airport is in a TRACON's airspace I can also get vectors to a visual final. I was expecting P2A to at least descend me to a reasonable altitude and then tell me I'm on my own. Is that not the case? Seems strange that it would just let me keep on flying at FL170, blowing by the destination.
April 20, 20179 yr Commercial Member Thanks for the report. I did find a bug that caused you not to get the descent or vectors. Should be fixed in the update coming out soon. Thanks, Dave
April 20, 20179 yr Author This is great to hear. Is there anything I can do to avoid the bug in the meantime, or will this affect all approaches into non-towered airfields?
April 21, 20179 yr Commercial Member I believe this issue affects approaches to airports without published approaches. There are quite a few non-towered airports with published approaches, so you can try one of them.
