Norway – North Cape

Recommended Posts

Norway – North Cape

Starting from Narvik (ENNK), the route proceeds north, via Tromso (ENTC), Sorkjosen (ENSR), Hasvik (ENHK), to the northern most city of Hammerfest (ENHF).  Then up to the North Cape with landings at Honnigsvag Valen (ENHV) followed by Mehamn (ENMH).  If time permits we will continue southeast with stops at Batsfjord (ENBS) and Vardo Svartnes (ENSS) before finishing at Kirkenes (ENKR).

The route is 415nm and an aircraft capable of 220 knts cruise or better is recommended.  I will be flying the Fligh1 King Air 200 but as always you are free to fly whatever you prefer.

There is still plenty of snow this far north there is also enough daylight now that we could do the entire flight in daylight, but I am recommending that we use 19:30 as start time so we can enjoy the final few airports in the twilight hours before full darkness.  All airports have good lighting but somewhat short runways, and in some cases nearby terrain, so proper approach planning will insure happy arrival outcomes.

Jeff, your recommended Orbx sceneries for Narvik and Hammerfest are indeed excellent. Both portray the small local airport but also give a really nice sense of the surrounding town, industrial facilities, and countryside. Thanks for the suggestion.
