Fresh V4 Install - add-on.cfg file was not created

Featured Replies

Installed V4, ran it, looks great.

Ran the brand new A2A C172 P3DV4 installer, launched sim, aircraft wasn't there.

Discovered on A2A forum that I need to edit the add-on.cfg file found at C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

add-on.cfg does not exist in that folder.

What now?

Thanks.

I installed the 182 and 250, they both installed into the documents folder:-

D:\Users\you\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\A2A\SimObjects\Airplanes

I installed at a custom location, not documents. Thanks though.

Apparently A2A tutorial has bad information. It says that the add-on.cfg is in C:\Users\*YOUR USER ACCOUNT*\AppData\RoamingC:\Users\*YOUR USER ACCOUNT*\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4. It is not. It is PROGRAM DATA\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4.

So I found the cfg. The A2A 172 is indeed listed in the cfg, and it points to the correct install folder. Still no plane in the sim.

Well I figured it out through process of elimination.

When I installed the plane, I wanted to be very organized, and installed to a folder called "C172_Trainer" in my ADDONS folder on my S: drive. The folder structure that was installed to the folder "C172_Trainer" was a bit odd upon review (based on my experience with A2A), so I decided to uninstall and reinstall, making sure to note the default location of the install. Here I noticed that the installer wanted to install to a folder called "A2A". Furthermore, I ACTUALLY READ all the instructional text and realized that ALL A2A aircraft need to be installed to the same folder...

DING DING DING

Doesn't make sense to install all A2A aircraft to a folder caller "C172_Trainer". So I didn't this time. Instead installed to a folder called "A2A" in my ADDONS folder on the S: drive

It works now.

I'll admit this was user error, but the installer did not stress the fact that YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE NAME OF THE FOLDER to which it installs, no matter if in the default location, or another location of your choice.

2 hours lost, but hey, I'm flying now.
