English US speech engine problems, P3DV4

Featured Replies

I've recently built a new computer based on Windows 10. I've uninstalled my previous copy of MCE and installed it on the new machine.

On running the program, I followed the instructions to install the English US speech engine, but on subsequent attempts to run the program it still asks me to install the English US speech engine.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong and would appreciate any pointers in the right direction.

Thanks,

Steve

A language pack is actually a collection of 3 things and maybe more.

- Keyboard support (which appears to be installed)

- Pen input (Hand Writing recognition). You don't need this for MCE.

- The speech recognition engine for that language which you haven't installed yet.

If you are on Windows 10, here is a video showing how to install any language pack completely.

Hi Gerald,

Thanks for the link to the video. I've installed the speech engine OK now.

Thanks for the help.

This might be a good occasions for this question:

I am considering Win10 for a new computer. If my original Windows10 version will be a different language than US English can the US English pack be installed even in the Home version or do I need the Pro version?

I remember this being a problem with Win7.

I'm not an expert on Windows 10, but I believe you can add the different language packs in Home version (they all certainly show up in my installation of Home edition).

I'm running win10 home and I added the US voice pack with no issues. So you should be fine with adding other packs.

Good to know.

Thanks to both of you!
