New install of P3D V4 and NGX fails to launch

Featured Replies

I just did a fresh install of the latest version of P3D V4 and all is running great. I installed the 737-800 base package and it installs just fine. I made sure simconnect is active and I installed everything as administrator. P3D V4 is running fine and planes are launching just fine. The aircraft preview section shows the PMDG 737 base models are there, but when I select one of them to load, P3D V4 shuts down to the desk top. What's wrong? Can anyone suggest to me a way to repair this? Is there a missing file somewhere? I am totally baffled. I've never encountered this before. Any help will be very much appreciated.

The first place I'd look is the dll.xml.  The PMDG Knowledge Base has an article that might help you with this, and there is always PMDG Product Support at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

How about the Operations Center, is that working for you?  If not, I would suspect an AV software running interference.

I suspect you are correct. It may well be a corrupt dll.xml file. I see from reading Elaine Dixon's advice on P3D V4 to maybe delete certain folders in P3D V4 to rebuild them properly. I may try that.

The PMDG operations center works fine, so I don't think it is a virus. I have AVG configured to ignore the P3D installation.

The dll.xml file in Program Data has the following lines for PMDG

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>

<SimBase.Document Type="AceXML" version="3,0" id="dll">
    <Descr>AceXML Document</Descr>
    <Filename>dll.xml</Filename>
  <Launch.Addon>
        <Name>XMLTools64</Name>
        <Disabled>False</Disabled>
        <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
        <Path>XMLTools64.dll</Path>
        <DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName>
        <DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName>
  </Launch.Addon>
  <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>PMDG_HUD_interface</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <Path>PMDG\DLLs\PMDG_HUD_interface.dll</Path>
    <DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName>
    <DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName>
  </Launch.Addon>
  <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>RAASPRO</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <Path>.\RAASPRO\RAASPRO.dll</Path>
    <DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName>
    <DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName>
  </Launch.Addon>
</SimBase.Document>

Dan was absolutely correct. It was a damaged dll.xml file. I found in the P3D Tips and Tricks section of these forums Elaine Dixon's steps for a repair of a P3D installation. I followed them to the letter and it completely cleaned up my installation to a proper state. Now the NGX launches properly. I am posting this here in case it might help someone else searching for these answers.

I did run the PMDG installation repair as well before loading the 737.

Thanks for reporting back, this will help others and Elaine was so active and supportive that LM made her a moderator for their forum.  She puts out good advice.
