March 12, 200620 yr Hello. Due to computer limitations I was forced to go back to fs2002. I got into the complex fs addon's at the time of 2004. So I have no clue what is good for fs2002 and what is not. I would like to ask a few questions though.1.What are some things I can do to make it look better? Even with the sliders maxed, it still falls short. (maybe I am just used to fs04)2.Is avsim the best place to find freeware aircraft for fs2002 as it is fs2004.3.Are there any good payware or freewares addons that would really improve my FS2002 experince that I should take a look at.4.Will active sky work for fs2002, if not, where can I find a program like it.Thanks :) If anyone one else would like to give me tips that do not have anything to do with these questions, they are welcome.
March 12, 200620 yr 1) The FS2002 weather engine's graphics are inferior, but the ground textures are very similar. You can upgrade some of the default airports. Search the various file libraries. A lot of the FS2004 sceneries work in FS2002 :)Download the floowing files from the Avsim libary:f2k2cldf.zip , fskyal24.zip and patch241.zipThe above files improve the default clouds :). Download the last FREE version of FSUIPC from this page: http://www.simviation.com/fs2002utilities_ess1.htm . It smooths out some of the MSFS deficiencies, but it's not essential :)2) Yes :)3) Payware: PMDG 737NG (http://www.precisionmanuals.com/html/73767.htm)FlyTampa Miami AirportMega Frankfurt EDDF (Airport traffic must be disabled, and AFCAD downloaded from Avsim library. Disclaimer - I have only heard this!)Freeware: Falcon 50 (fal50c2.zip, fa50ptch.zip, and fa50pch2.zip)Project Opensky 757s, A330s, 747-200s, and even the new 737-800*!! The A340 also works*! iFDG planes work in FS2002: A320, A319 and A321!! :) The MD-11 also works perfectly! An A330 and A320 panel can be downloaded here: http://emarciano.free.fr/Kirk Olsson's F-16C works perfectly in FS2002! (usviper.zip) ... there are dozens of repaints!A Fantastic F-15C is at your disposal:http://www.flightinfo.jp/coral/f-15hangar.htmlEduardo Fadul's brilliant MiG-29 works in FS2002:http://www.fsimcafe.com/Downloads/ShowDown...x?ProductID=967There are many many more :). I will add some if I get the time :D* (albeit with limited moving parts, which can be 99% fixed with a utility called MDLC) Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
March 12, 200620 yr Thanks for the great reply! I have tried the Jet blue a320 by IFDG and the wings and tail display black. Any fix for this? :)
March 12, 200620 yr It might be something to do with the texture format. Do you know how to modify textures? If so, download http://fly.to/mwgfx/ and change all of the textures to 32 bit format. It should work ....Let me add some more files to the FS2002-friendly list:an124.zip - an extremely detailed AN-124 Ruslanan225.zip - AN-225 Mriyaa380fs8.zip - an A380 in House Colours. Search for 'A380' and 'Versluys' and you will find lots of repaints, but only use the Model file that comes with a380fs8.zip :)Most of the Russian planes by Dimitry Samborski (samdim)Also, tu95zh.zip (Tu-95 Bear)Meljet's 777s and 747-400Project Opensky 747-400All of Kazunori Ito's planes! :)Concorde! http://www.fsfrance.com/Projets/Mach2/Main_eng.htmSGA DC-10s!!!!! You will need to download this plane for its model file: bimandc10_series-30er.zip . You can then use ANY fs2004 repaint of the DC-10-30. If you know what you're doing you can also use the DC-10-10 and 40 series, but you will need the original FS2002 MDL files. The FS9 versions have XML coding, and don't display in FS8 :(The DSB freeware Tornado and Jaguar. Adam Preece's Sea Harrier. These are located on the flightsim.comThe original SGA A300B4-203 works in FS8 :) This might be available on flightsim.com? The FS2004 version is a no-no.A300B4-203 panel: a3bgt_20.zip , a3002_gb.zip and a3bgtsnd.zip80% of FS2004 planes work in FS2002 without modification Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
March 12, 200620 yr Also ...George Grimshaw's KBOS Scenery (free)Thomas Kwong's FS2000 Kai Tak (VHHH) scenery works in FS8 and FS9. It's a little old now, but it's better than the default!Nepal scenery by Einar Aarvik - numerous airports for Nepal, including the INFAMOUS Tribhuvan Int'l (VNKT) and Lukla (VNLK) ... which is in the crack of a mountain ... so to speak :-lol. The most up-to-date version is on flightsim.com, but nepal.zip (available on this site) should be fine :) Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
March 12, 200620 yr Hi,4. Active Sky wxRE, designed for FS2002, is still for sale. Search Flight1. That is the only version that will work.Edit: Active Sky 2002 is still in the library, but due to data changes at NOAA it will not load winds. It is free too, isn't it?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
March 12, 200620 yr Thanks everyone! Greatly appreciated. If anyone has anymore files/tips please post them. :) BTW. How is UT for 2002? I purchased it awhile ago for fs2004 and It killed my fps. If I reinstall it with my key, and use it with fs 2002, will it still kill my frames?if so, if there a better alternative out there? I have downloaded alot of the aircraft you all have suggested, most without a hitch. Now trying to set up my AI and trying to find the best one.
March 13, 200620 yr One thing I did, was install FS2004 world textures into FS2002. It did a world of improvement. Search for a thread here explaining the procedure. Basiclly, all I did was copy all the textures from FS2004 from here: C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFS2002SCENEDBWORLDtexture over into FS2002 (overwriting). Remember to make a back up...I just upgraded to a AMD 3500+ and geforce 6800GS video card, and FS2002 just flies. I have over 30+FPS everywhere, (even KORD) with everything maxed.... I will most likely stick with the FS2002 platform for a very long time because of this... Besides, I have to many add-ons that I enjoy, and can't be bothered to have to start all over again.... I'd rather be flying than tweaking at this point in time...A nice little wx program is found here: http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/fsmetar/I was using Active Sky 1.92.4 up until 1 week ago, but stopped using it because the visibility is not correctly displayed when it falls below 1SM. http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchIf the visibility isn't an issue with you, then I highly recommend Active Sky... The weather it generates can't be beat...Have fun, and welcome back to FS2002
March 13, 200620 yr Thanks for the help everyone. Just one more question, what is the best frame-rate friendly AI traffic to use? Also one more thing, at the time I only have two addon a/c. Until I could find the time to search and get more. Anyway it seems like on both the add-on panels I have the Nav1 radios wont tune. Nav2 raidos tune OK but no luck with nav1. Any help would be appreicated.
March 13, 200620 yr With regard to the non-tuning Nav radios, check that the aircraft's "aircraft.cfg" has the following entries:{Radios}// Radio Type=availiable, standby frequency, has glide slopeAudio.1=1Com.1=1,Com.2=1,Nav.1=1,1,1Nav.2=1,1Adf.1=1,1Transponder.1=1Marker.1=1(replace the curly brackets with square ones :)). Close FS2002 before you reload the plane ... otherwise it may crash the sim ;)If that doesn't work, you may need to replace the radio gauge :( Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
March 13, 200620 yr Active sky works fine with Fs2002, also FSW clouds. I still fly FS2002 from time to time mainly for the best FS2002 aircraft of all time: the Dreamfleet 737-400. Would highly recommend it, although I am not sure about your computer limitations. Also the PSS 777 panel (old version still available) and Meljet 777 model work great together in FS2002. Then theres tons of freeware. Any meshes will also improve the look. Just search the avsim library. I fly FS2002 to practice IFR. I find it runs better (FPS) than FS2004 whith the sky overcast, low visibility and bad weather but that may be due to my running dual monitors. Also much of the photographic sceneries work with FS2002, If you have them for fs2004, you can just add them to the scenery library in the usual way. You don't need to install them twice, just browse to their location and add them.
March 13, 200620 yr Hi the doggg,Are you experiencing the visibility dropping to minimums if vis. is less than 1 mile?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
March 13, 200620 yr Sorry for my ignorance, I am not a real pilot. Do you mean the visibility layer reaching down to minimums altitude ( 400 or 200 ft depending on rwy) when vis set to 1 mile in advanced weather menu or is this an active sky setting . I only recently bought active sky so I havent really played with the options that much yet. I meant the FS2004 clouds bringing down FPS more than the FS2002 clouds in similar weather conditions (ie in the soup) not so much the visibility. Also which sim are you referring to FS2002 or FS9.
March 13, 200620 yr Other than the weather/clouds, there isn't that much of a performance difference from FS2002 to FS9. If you had bad performance with FS9, adding all these "complex" addons to your FS2002 install are going to make it just as bad if not worse, just an observation.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
March 13, 200620 yr Hi,AS wxRE with FS2002 or 2004. If AS is reporting a visibility less than 1 mile what does your FS visibility show? Not a problem if you can't tell as we are trying to troubleshoot an issue and we are looking for others still using wxRE.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
