Could a texture file used for ground haze cause massive performance degradation?

At KFTC this morning frames tanked from 30 (30mHz vert refresh synced) as the Majestic Q400 loaded into this airport down to 12 fps within 60 seconds or so of full load of the airplane which started cold and dark.  This is a blatant aberration as this setting would easily be managed by my settings.  The only thing I could tell might have done this is I was surrounded by ground mist or something.   Turning cloud and terrain shadowing off had no impact and besides GPU utilization with those shadows turned on was still low around 62%.   I don't think this is the Fx_WheelWetSpray.fx or fx_WheelSnowSpray.fx files because this is happening when the plane's engines haven't even been started let alone moving.   FWIW, I went back to the same airport and gate at a different time when weather had changed and there was no weird performance degradation.

You have to “de-mist” the windows using hot air, this is a true life feature with this add on.

 

Haze , Fog , Clouds and Rain cost performance . The more you have it the more you wil get a performance panelty.

And indeed , the better the AA , the lower the franerate can get.

I know this occurred before even the windows fogged up--just after the plane fully loaded frames locked at 30 by 1/2 refresh sync, and then it just kept ticking down and down all the way to 12.  This has never happened to me in the past...20 years of simming.

Yes I know what you're referring to but this is something else completely.  

Oh well at least it didn't happen later at the same airport, plane, and only the weather I think had changed some, but not much!
