GTN 750 + default Cessna 172

Without the GTN 650 installed, it would look like you'd have to pay a visit to the nearest qualified technician… Inactive 3D bezel and dark screen. And of course, you can just disable the GTN 650 by editing the RealityXP.GTN.ini.

Great. And forgive me the insistence, but if I disable the 650 via the .ini file, what will I go to see? Does the GNS430 take its place?

Not at all. The cockpit would remain the same. Same 3D bezels and instruments.
I know some aircraft offer the option to switch from one set of instruments to another but it requires animation steps and some simple code I didn't try to include in that simple mod.
Maybe Laminar Research will provide a way to use modular instruments in the future but with the current implementation, it's rather difficult to get a custom cockpit.

BTW if anyone uses a VR headset I could use some feedback on the GTN clickspots integration. I'll have to change those too.

Well, if you want, I have both 650/750 from RealityXP and I actually fly with Oculus Rift. ;)

Ah excellent. If you're interested in testing an early version of the mod with the default 172 (without REP), please PM me your email address so we can get in touch easily.
It would be mostly to check if the clickspots are easy to reach in VR and if everything looks ok.
Thanks for chiming in ;)

The mod is not publicly available yet (but almost ready). Testing phase is on ;) PM sent.

Hi @Bourrinopathe. I’m using an oculus rift . It as been reported that the latest version of 11.20 VR2 allows to click spot with the virtual mouse . I’ll be happy to early test and report you the feedback.  With or without the REp172 I’m using both but in be only the native one

Get some retrofit into that Skyhawk!
The GTN mod is now available.

INTRODUCTION

This mod will allow you to use your Reality XP GTN instruments in the Skyhawk virtual cockpit.
The chosen configuration is a realistic retrofit including two complementary GTN units (GTN 750 and GTN 650).
If you don't own both Reality XP GTN products, one of the GTN will stay dark with no further issue.
Reality XP products
Enjoy your realistic flights!
This mod has been tested with X-Plane 11.11 and 11.20VR3. It should not go BOOM on you (hopefully)
Thanks to the guinea pigs testers from that forum and beyond. (Thanks for the feedback guys!)

FEATURES

  • Accurate GTN 3D models based on Garmin schematics and official 3D models (note that the current versions are not animated).
  • GTN displays using their 'real life' native resolutions:
            - GTN 750 display: 600 x 708 pixels
            - GTN 650 display: 600 x 266 pixels
  • High resolution textures and PBR screen reflexion (might be improved in the future).
  • Fully compatible with SimCoders Reality Expansion Pack v3.3 or superior.
  • Included icons templates (.psd) for your custom liveries.

KNOWN ISSUES

Touchscreens in VR are non-interactable.
This is a common issue with any GTN-equipped aircraft and will likely be fixed soon.

POSSIBLE FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS

  • PBR textures improvements
  • animated buttons

(readme file included)

SimCoders REP v3.3 and superior: just install the Reality Expansion Pack as you would do with your standard C172.
The REP installer will identify the files and modify your GTN version.
The icons templates also include a layer to add the SimCoders logo to the previews to help you identify the aircraft version quickly. Use Photoshop or Gimp to edit your files and create your custom liveries previews.

If you encounter any issue with the mod, please post in that thread, and I'll try to help.

Happy flying!

(note to mods or Jean-Luc: please copy the content of that post in the OP (or wherever necessary). Thanks!)

Thanks to you for this mod :D

Good job. Thanks a lot!
