Installing add-on aircraft

Featured Replies

I seem to remember reading somewhere that when installing 3rd. partyaircraft into FS9, it is OK to leave any effects and gauge files whichcome with them inside the aircraft folder in question, rather thanmove the files to the main FS9 Effects or Gauges folders. In otherwords, an aircraft folder would have subfolders for panel, sound, model, texture etc., but also gauges and effects folders. Before I experiment, does anyone know if this actually the case? Itwould be much neater as an installation method if so, especially if Iwant to uninstall any add-ons and not leave bits of their installationbehind. After a year or two it's a nightmare trying to find out whichprogramme installed all the extra gauges and effects....(Would this work for wav files too - say where the sound folder justcontains an 'alias' cfg file?).Thanks,MartinBTW. Yes, I have tried programmes which supposedly tell you which gauges are not used by any panels - but they never seem to work for me. I always get a report back showing that 80% of my gauges are not in use, which is nonsense: if I move them to a different folder, as suggested, half of my panels come up looking pretty empty. Odd ...

i'm not sure about effects, but you can leave the gauges in the gauge folder. It'll work. However, you'll have to do this for every variation of the aircraft, which could eat up a lot of harddrive space. You can also make your own panel file and point it to a "shared" folder. -fz

Effects have to go into the effects folder or you wont see them. Guage files can be put into the panel folders, but I believe they cant be in the panel folder as a folder but as individual files. I do this (large HD) and that way I can move planes and panels in and out as whole folders. If you dont have the space its not a very efficient way to do it.Hornit

Thanks. Yes. I have enough space, but I am not sure that it is going to be worth it. Better, as I am reinstalling FS9 completely afresh at the moment (I do have an image file, but I haven't reinstalled from the original files since FS9 came out, so I think it's time to clean things up and make a fresh Acronis image), to make a note of the gauges, effects and sounds installed with each aircraft. I'll experiment a bit anyway.M. :-)
