What is Omegas drivers?? Is it good to change to this new driver?? Some say to leave well enough alone..........(but I love to tinker).......RRL

Hi Alex. I've seen people install Omega drivers over the years and know they have a loyal following. But I've never understood why omega drivers would be preferred over the company issued ones when the company ones are pretty current. Can you help me? What are the pros and cons? Wouldn't one assume the company has an edge in accuracy, stability, etc. Curious.

It seems to be a system-specific issue whether or not you use the Omegas which theorectially are optimized for gaming. My personal experience is that I get better performance from the CATs compared to the Omegas, but again I would stress that that is on my system. Only way to find out which is better for your setup is to try it, run FS and see which driver seems to work best for you.Hope that's helpful.Ed GreenKCLThttp://www.panelshop.com/DEV.jpg

I just put the Omegas on my machine. Better frame rates and far better visuals. You're right, they are system sensitive. It never hurts to try things now and then as long as you understand that anything can happen.

The Omegas are based on the official ATI drivers. He starts with the official ATI drivers and tweaks them for improved image quality. They're almost as current too; a new Omega version usually appears within weeks after a new ATI release.

you just have to make sure you follow their steps to uninstall the old drivers by removing them in add/remove programs then rebooting into safe mode and running the program "Driver Cleaner" then rebooting normally and installing the new omega drivers. I see far better visuals at the cost of some performance with omegas and feel its worth it

Anybody useing this version with an ATI 9800Pro?I faithfully updated to the latest ATI Catalyst versions until......With the prior Catalyst 6.xx series, I have had severe flashing on my FS9 textures. Have tried the suggestions on several posts relative to what should be on and what whould be disabled (plus every other combination I could think of), but there is still flashing. On the recommendation of an earlier post went back to the 5.11 version with no problems. Frankly, I see no difference in quality with them from the later versions but am curious if anybody else has faced this issue and if the latest still have it.Happy flying:RTH

Hi,Can't comment on the latest Omegas but the Omega 3.8.205 (6.01) / Catalyst 6.1 drivers have been performing flawlessly for me for the past couple of months or so. I think I may stick with them for a while (I always say that ;) ).FS9:AA = 6X (using Radlinker)AF = 16X forced (using Radlinker)Mipmap = 4 (in sim)Trilinear filtering enabled (in sim)MikeP4 2.4GHz (400FSB), 1Gig PC2100 DDR Crucial, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (Omega 3.8.205 (6.01) / Catalyst 6.1), SB Audigy (5.12.0001.0443), Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" TFT LCD 20ms Monitor (1280x1024x32), Gigabyte GA-8IRXP MoBo, Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 (160GB) + Hitachi Deskstar 7K80 UDMA100 (80 GB) , Ultra-Quiet PSU 400W, Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse, WinXP Home (SP2), DirectX 9.0c, AGP Aperture = 128MB

I have a 9800 Pro too. I'm with you, the ATI drivers gave me a lot of flashing. The Omega drivers greatly reduced the problem. The best drivers from ATI were the 6.14 version. ATI's control center gave my computer fits. I don't know what that was about, but it would take forever for my machine to boot up.

Ummmm. InterestingWith the Version 6.xx series I have had the flashing problem with both the default ATI or the Omega tweaked drivers, and as mentioned in my original post I have tried turning off, or on all of the suggestions on related posts. Flashing remains.Back to the Version 5.xx series no problem. As for setup utilities I am pretty well sold on ATI tray tools. in comparison with either the control panel or center. Thanks for the reply:RTH
