FSX.EXE gone

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Just came across the strangest issue here. I installed a new aircraft I got from Aerosoft, the Bronco, and the fsxexe appears to be gone along with the core files. Where the icon usually is in an image of a person with a crossed out symbol over it. When I click on on it it says "Can't open this item". Its very strange and I've never come across this before. I tried a reboot, and then a system restore, to no avail. I'm on a Windows 7 machine running FSX acceleration boxed. I know that a full reinstall would probably fix the issue, but I have well over a hundred products installed and am trying to avoid this. The other files, like Simobjects, appear untouched. If anyone has an easier way of fixing this than a reinstall it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

What is actually "gone"?  is it just the FSX Icon on your desktop or is the Main FSX folder missing?

If it's just the icon, you can right-click on the icon in the main folder and say "send to desktop and create a shortcut".

The FSX.exe icon is usually a white aircraft (not a person!) in plan form on a blue square background. The Aerosoft logo however is a person with their arms outstretched as if they were flying - is that what you are looking at do you think?

As Charlie said, the FSX.exe file should still be in your main FSX folder and you should be able to just recreate another shortcut on your desktop as he describes.

No, its definitely not the Aerosoft logo, its where the FSX logos used to be. Here are some pictures of what I mean. The area under the folders in the FSX main where there are usually just single files is just gone. There is just the support link and then nothing.  https://www.dropbox.com/s/285jhd1olzjm53m/fsxiconmissing.jpg?dl=0   https://www.dropbox.com/s/1zl2r27nld5b7j0/fsxmissingfiles.png?dl=0

Oh I have no idea where that icon might come from! I also actually have the Aerosoft Bronco in FSX Acceleration using Win 7, but I installed it years ago with no problem although it is not an aircraft I fly frequenty. I assume you bought it from a reputable source but I hope your system hasn't been hit by some sort of virus if the FSX.exe file has also disappeared from your FSX root folder.

Thanks for all your help guys but I can't seem to be able to find it anywhere. I suppose it might have been a freak bug with the Bronco installer, which I purchased from the Aerosoft shop. I guess I will have to start from scratch again. :(

I would do a Repair first before a total reinstall.

Ok I tried the repair feature from the disks (which haven't been touched in over 3 years) and it actually worked! Thank you very much. Like I said, I have no idea how this happened but I think I've got it sorted now. Thanks!
