April 18, 200620 yr This post is mainly for the fanclub ;)I am tempted to try something from this company, even if I I know about some of the downsides. The problem is that I have a hard time understanding their systems, and how things match, and what they include:Has this one a both a VC and 2D Cockpit? http://www.arianedesign.com/dept.asp?dept%5Fid=26And can I use it in combination with this?: http://www.arianedesign.com/product.asp?de...Fid=3433&sku=23In that case the price is $67, which is ok.If the only way to get a basic one livery vc/2d updated plane is the "Boeing 737-X00 Ng BOEING V2 SPECIAL EDITION BASE PACK" at 49.95 pluss an airline pack at 12.50 ($111) I'll have to pass :(.Eagle
April 18, 200620 yr Ariane planes do not come with a 2d cockpit; rather, Ariane "invented" something they call the 2di cockpit, which might be defined as a "really bad idea." This 2di cockpit is designed to distract people from the fact that you cannot takeoff and land with this plane from the virtual cockpit, since the refresh rate on the pfd and mfd is about 1 frame per 24 hours. Search under my handle for a set of "honest abe" screenshots. ricardo
April 18, 200620 yr I tried Ariane 737-800 V2 a couple of times on a fellow simmer's machine (nice hardware config) since I was attempted to purchase it too. The VC lightings are very very nice. And the panning movements in VC with trackIR was very smooth. However, for me there are two things I really didn't like about it though. One is the VC textures are still somewhat toward the "low" end comparing to many other commercial addons. And two is the refresh rate of the gauges in VC. As Ricardo said it's about 1 frame per 24 hours. :) Yeah it sure felt that way to me. My personal conclusion is it's simply not flyable given the gauge refresh rate. It's really a shame because otherwise I am sure I'd have purchased my own copy. After searching the forums I can see I am not the only person who experienced this although some claim there is no problem with the refresh rate.Just my personal opions based on some rather brief experience on one particular machine.Jason Zhang JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
April 18, 200620 yr Author The VC refresh rate is indeed something that has prevented me from bying several aircrafts. I'm very picky at this area, so thanks for pointing that out!I read somewhere that it has 17(!) VC windows. If that's right you can't expect more than 1 fps gauge refresh rate. The PMDG 737 has 3 VC sections, and their 747 only ONE, and the 747 is famous for its VC :). Looks like I'm gonna stick to the PMDGs ...Eagle
