Lukla?

Featured Replies

I bought the Lukla scenery a few days back. There are pros and cons, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Some comments:The uphill runway is authentic - I remember watching the real one being built a few years back (when you came in by helicopter or nothing!). It makes stopping, not just easier, but possible!! The only downside in FS9 is that (according to Aerosoft) this results in the problem of falling through the runway if you hit it too short. You have to land after the painted number 7, not on the lines. The right aircraft helps, as has been said. I use a Baron 58, which works fine.Apart from the great look of Lukla, with its smoking hu chimneys etc., there are lots of other scenery improvements - including a realistic looking Khumbu glacier at Mt. Everest, and the big peaks themselves look wonderful. There are lots of coloured tents at Base Camp - a nice realistic touch. (Though they wouldn't be there for much of the year of course! You have to fly 'in season').A few negative points. The runways at Phaplu & Syangboche are very rough - so much so that Aerosoft tell you to reduce the fs9.cfg Terrain_Max_Vertex_Level to 19, which is not ideal. (I managed to replace these two airstrips with ones I prefer). Also, it's best not to fly in any other season than summer, as they have made the mountain around Lukla very green. They say it is (I don't remember), but apart from in summer it sticks out like a sore thumb against the grey/browns - with a sharp line between the two). Of course, summer in Nepal is the monsoon season and in reality no one would be flying there - you have to suspend your disbelief for the duration..Well this is long enough, but I think, if you do any FS flying in this area, the scenery is well worth the modest asking price.Martin

I just got this airport based on what I experienced with the uneven runway of EDER of Germany 4 and took my first flight at Lukla. Replaced the 182 default with the caranado's stationair and toof off and landed nicely...well as nicely as I could without crash and burn and had to hard brake ...just about.AMAZING... The scenery is spectacular.... Aerosoft guys are onto something with sceneries that has these high muntain passes and uneven runways.... This is a new experience in flight simming. When I took off and lifted off the runway... it was breathtaking. I have a 24" widescreen monitor and a Frensel lens to boot.... it was spectacular.I got the Mega Frankfurt in the morning and flew that for a while.. But this is taking my attention away from that.MannyPS: I take back what I said in my earlier post. That was pure conjecture and a bad one.
