VISTA OZ & Flight Enviroment & or Ground Enviroment

Featured Replies

Hello, I just downloaded the latest VISTA OZ. I currently have Flight Enviroment & I am thinking about getting the latest Ground Enviroment. My question is this... I notice it changes some wave effects etc... I know that Flight Enviroment has an effect on the waves etc on the flightsim. I was just wondering if there are others that have VISTA OZ installed with Flight Enviroment & Ground Enviroment that need to back up other files etc. Haven't got Ground Enviroment. Very happy with Flight Enviroment and if the person that created Flight Enviroment created Ground Enviroment I am about 24hrs away from getting Ground Enviroment then :)... So fellow Enviroment users have any advice I need to follow before installing VISTA OZ... I have the VISTA OZ downloaded off the site just waiting for advice before I go any further very excited to check out this VISTA OZ... Thanks, Josh

First, VOZ is the most complete and well done scenery addon I've ever had, payware or not!!! Everything fits, roads, bridges, autogen etc., and you get some excellent airports and city scenery. For free! All you need is mesh (ra-ta-da-ri-da, all you need is mesh (sorry Beatles!)), and you can get that from FSGenesis or even some free ones.I'm not absolutely sure, but I would think that if you do any changes in GE AFTER the VOZ install, ie. select new water/waves, GE will overwrite whatever the VOZ installer put in there.Eagle

VOZ does overwrite FE's water, so what I do is after I run VOZ, I go and run FE again and it puts it's water back in so you have VOZ and still have your FE water. After I un-voz, I run GE and FE again so that everything is back to normal. VOZ is great, but you only want it in certain areas of the world. I still prefer FE's water over VOZ' water.Lee

So when I Voz/UNVoz, isn't that going to create a problem since GE doesn't 'replace' the FS9 default textures it depends upon since it already thinks they're in place and ready to go.Am I being paranoid?Should I just VOZ and shaddup? After reading the review of VOZ (and interview with Koorby) in last month's issue of ComputerPilot magazine, I've been aching to do so.Any thoughts on the texture-paranoia mentioned above?

Yes what you're saying is right. When I "GE", I always "UN-GE". Just like VOZ and UNVOZ. That way you're always going back to default between GE and VOZ. I've got my icons all lined up in a row with the active one up a level on the screen as a visual reminder to tell me what's active.Running FE at any stage will only replace your skies, water and waves. So GE or VOZ first, then put your FE in.Confused? Good.

I archive them all and show them to friends when explaining flightsimming. Fantastic stuff!|||||back to our regularly scheduled programming....|||||Not confused...yet. :)So... if I understand you correctly, you do the following. If you want to run VOZ: 1. You run GE2006 2. You select "Restore Original Backup Textures" 3. You VOZ. 4. Run Flightsim and fly (duh).Conversely, if you want to UN-Voz, you do the following: 1. You run GE2006. 2. You select "Restore Original Backup Textures" 3. You UN-Voz 4. Run flightsim and fly.Is this correct? Am I to understand that you consistently restore your original default textures before either VOZzing or GE2006-ing? Confused? Good. hehe

Just to add something here guys,FE update 3 has an option for the user to use their own water so it's possible to copy any files regarding water to a FE folder. If you need any help doing this contact me on msn messenger [email protected]

Thanks Yeah as long as you UnVoz and UnGE you'll be back at default to then go Voz or GE.If you GE and then VOZ after that (with no UnGE) Voz will back up your GE set.I keep a clean default set zipped up and close by for emergencies. If things get screwed up - I just unzip this into fs9/texture and I'm back.Peter has led to an interesting point. In that if you happen to have MIXED favourites, ie FE skies, VOZ waves, FE water etc - these are all just FILES. You just could make a folder saying "My fave Envirionment files" and then copy in your own favourite set to add in.

There's a far simpler way :)(A) If you have NOT yet installed VOZ1. Install GE20062. Install VOZ, then VOZ a region - GE2006 (plus any defaults not replaced by GE) are backed up3. When finished flying in Australia - UNVOZ - GE2006 is restored and you're away!(:( If you have already installed VOZ but not GE2006 yet:1. UNVOZ2. Install GE20063. VOZ a region (GE is backed up)4. UNVOZ when finished in Australia and GE is restored.

That is correct Koorby, There is also the possibility to make two backups of your sceneryworldtexture folder using the GE interface. Like a snapshot of what you have currently installed. If you have installed VOZ and you want to switch to GE, just select the backups icon on the GE insterface http://members.home.nl/vos69/backups.jpg before you run the GE install button.Select "alternate backup" - this will make a second backup with all the VOZ textures in place. Now run GE "install selected options" Whenever you want to switch back to VOZ just go to the backups screen in the GE interface and select "restore alternate backups".In a nut shell;- Install VOZ and run VOZ slect all the options you want for Australia- run GE interface - select Create Alternate Backup SetIf you want to GE - just run with options Global Coverage Day en Night, and select "Install selected options"If you want to VOZ - select ; restore alternate backups.Whatever you choose, both methods work perfect, either from the VOZ interface or the GE. Have fun!

Hi,There is one point that everyone is overlooking or may not be aware of:When you UNVOZ to restore your pre-VOZ setup several files are missed and currently are not being restored...fx_swoosh.bmpfx_swoosh2.bmpfx_waves.fxstars.datterrain.cfgdlgsplash.bmpPrior to doing your first VOZ it might be a good idea to make a backup of these files. Alternatively, you can locate these files in the backup folders made my VOZ under Flight Simulator 9VOZBACKUP for manual restoring later should you wish to do so.Mike

Koorby and Anthony:Much obliged for making it all so very clear. As a result, I'm going to be VOZzing all this weekend and exploring a continent I know so little of.Thanks again!

Just backup your original dlgslpash.bmp and also copy it into VOZBACKUPUIRES after your first VOZ and the UNVOZ works fine for that file from there on in.The other files are no longer included/edited/overwritten by VOZ from version 1.2 onwards.

Howdy, Well surely like the thought of trying VOZ but the stars and other files that change etc.. Kinda spooking me... To much stuff for me to be playing with and changing just to setup a flight. Thanks,
