FS2004 in Protected mode only?

Featured Replies

Hello! I had FS 2002Pro, and everything was OK. Now I installed FS2004 (in a separate directory), but I cannot see the main panel in my plane, whichever plane I choose. In protected mode the panel appears and is working. What's the problem? I don't like the title bar!

Please sign your post's in future so we know who we are replying to.When you say 'you can't see the panel, are you seeing it without the guages or do you see nothing at all just the scenery in front of you?Short answer, to try is, 'shift + 1' while in 'cockpit' view on your keyboard. If that dosen't solve things come back?Dave T. .........On the Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/http://www.captainsim.com/user/dl/c130/c130_captain.gif

Hello Dave,I tried SHIFT-1 of course, with no effect.I see the background (the scenery) only, I don't see an empty panel without gauges. The lower part of the screen is black. What do you mean with "sign your post"? The user name is inserted automatically, isn't it???RegardsUlrich

Ulrick,I don't know what you have done and why you see the panel in 'safe' mode and not in normal mode? All I can suggest is that the program has not loaded properly?Remedy, go to 'start/program files/microsoft games/FS2004/Troubleshooting/Reset Defaults'If that dosen't work either I suggest you undelete the whole program, defrag your system and reload it fresh. If you do this, there is no reason why the FS9 should not run? Also check your graphics card setting is the correct one in the 'hardware' section of 'settings'.Your signature will only appear if you fill in your 'profile' and other readers will be more attracted to respond to a 'person' with a real name rather that your sign-in name.Dave T. .........On the Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/http://www.captainsim.com/user/dl/c130/c130_captain.gif

@Dave:Thank you - I did as you suggested: deinstall the program, defrag the disk and reinstall. The differences to the state before are:- The program is now in .../../FS9 (I choose "express installation") instead of ../FS2004 (when I made a "custom installation")The rest is the same as before: No panel in full size view - program has to be started in protected mode, then it works. And there are no green artefacts in the sky as before, when there where some at the beginning, which disappeared after a few seconds. In addition, the flightstick (Logitech Freedom 2.4) is reacting very fast, it's nearly impossible to land...But I think I let it be as it is now (the stick has to be adjusted however), but the scenery is so much better than in FS2002, and since I'm flying with a Zenith 701 or 801 (and other older props), this is important to me. The only drawback is that you have to be careful with the mouse not to hover over the lower blue bar, or the program will interrupt... Thanks again!Ulrich

Ulrich, check if AntiAliasing in FS is enabled,if so,disable it.could also be the Anisotropic Filtering (sp?)so if disabling AA does not work, try disabling AF.also, post your system spec's next time, that in itself can give the vital clue ;)cheersJP.

@JP:Ok - thanks for the hint. I think my graphic card is not powerful enough... I see no option "anisotrophic..."Anyway, check it out and tell me if this is so!On this picture (http://www.quicknet.ch/fuchs/fs/fsscr002.bmp) you will see the dialog window when program is opened in normal mode.On this picture you see the result... (http://www.quicknet.ch/fuchs/fs/fsscr000.bmp) - Disgusting!!And on this picture you see the same when program is started in protected mode: (http://www.quicknet.ch/fuchs/fs/fsscr001.bmp)My compi is ASUS, with AMD Sempron 2800, 80 GB disk, 1024 MB DDR memory, graphics (see fsscr002.bmp) and sound is onboard (shared memory). I hope this will help to find the "clue" !!RegardsUlrich(sorry for forcing to download the pictures from my webspace, but they are too big to post here)

Hello all the helpful members! Now I buyed a POINT OF VIEW AGP-8x Graphics card ( 239,00 Swiss francs) with Nvidia 6800XT chip and 512 MB memory, and *bingo* everything is at its best!!!!To Admin: post can be closed now - thanks!

Hey I have been to Switzerland (Bern, Zug, Interlaken) before, and I even have a Swiss franc or two laying around... :) but not enough to buy that video card! Lots of memory! I am glad the new card solved the problem. What you had before must have been not up to the task.Rhett
