January 15, 20188 yr Anybody have any idea why this happened? 1) VNAV and LNAV selected but AP off. 2) Engage AP, disengage LNAV and engage HDG. 3) A/C tries to maintain hdg 300 for a while in winds. 4) I tweak HDG to 299 and it goes into a heavy bank left. I disengage VNAV (in a panic) and the aircraft moves violently to the left in a way it definitely shouldn't... January 15, 20188 yr What are you using to inject weather? What the wind speed/direction jump around on the ND. If you are using ActiveSky I always recommend turning turbulence and effects sliders down to about 25%. The simulator platform has very unrealistic turbulence modelling and advanced aircraft will not tolerate that abuse. Dan Downs KCRP

Thank you, I will try that - if anybody else has any other suggestions in the mean time these would be very welcome; but what you say is probably right as, in the events leading up to that sudden movement, you can see there are strong winds EDIT: However it doesn't address why it banked left so much for 1 degree change on the HDG bug? As that is controlled by MCP, not weather or hardware? The MCP can't do much in the way of control if the aircraft is being bombarded with unrealistic weather effects, or bad signals from hardware. For the latter, try setting your AP on, and then hold the yoke full left. What wins, the AP or your hardware? Kyle Rodgers

Hardware works perfectly in calibration and in all other phases of flight so I'm a bit confused. Must be the weather engine telling the plane to bank systematically to the left so I've turned turbulence down. EDIT : just remembered it's also done weird stuff on SIDS too - banking completely away from the direction of it when crossing way points of the SID, even when speed is slow enough to make them. I'll record video every time now to see if I can capture anything but in the mean time I've turned down turbulence as I say.
