May 13, 200620 yr Hello Craig:I know what you mean and am not going to add it up, but everything is relative. If you divided your $808.21 by the total number of hours you spend behind the controls, what would be the hourly cost? My last calculation for myself was something like 45 cents per hour, and I have only two more addon items left on my wishlist (Until the next mousetrap is offered). If it is not in their blood, it seems in their eyes foolish to others when grown men (or women) sit for hours playing what to them is just another childish computer game called FS. The same can be said for sitting on a bench being a hanger bum at an airport watching those stupid planes takeoff and land (and that's free). We want even get into spending the BIG BUCKS for a few hours of the real thing. If it is in your blood, most things relative to aviation are a pleasure, passtime, and recreation regardless of whether it is your job or one's flight is simply by looking at a computer screen and the uninitiated will never understand it. As a recreation or passtime, IMHO FS is still the best bargain of which I know relative to price. I have an old 72 I believe first year Ranger Bass Boat (Classic) with a 70 horse Evinrude which I have reworked a couple of times. The nearest lake is about 45 miles from me. For a day of fishing with gas prices now just about $3.00 per gal. a few hours fishing would pay for an addon in FS, and probably more if somebody wants to ski for a while and the only thing I am considering is gas. The time I probably will spend with that addon will far exceed the few hours of fishing even if it goes into the archives when I loose interest and move on to something else (Probably will be resurrected in the future for another venture as well).A movie at today's prices if one buys popcorn and a drink exceeds the cost of some addons. How about a meal at a nice resturant?I try to budget so much per month for FS. If an item I want costs more than that, I save for a month or two or whatever and this is one of the most inexpensive items in my monthly budget.Addon's or no addons, I still get far more pleasure per dollar and per hour from FS than any other passtime for which I have ever paid. May 14, 200620 yr The dollar saving trick for me is to only purchase by download. That and a 56k (actually doesn't get much better than 35 - 48k) connection saves a bundle on add ons. Flight Environment took me close to 5 days to download and most payware terrain meshes are completely out of the question for anything but local coverage.
