Sunshine on the water in VR is distorted - can't focus

Featured Replies

I know that this has been a problem at times and it seems like this might have become worse recently for P3Dv4.1 - maybe after I asked for the Shaders to be recompiled - not sure?? The problem is that the sun reflection (the shine on the water in the direction of a low sun - not an actual reflection of clouds or terrain or...) is out of stereo balance (your eyes cannot focus) in VR mode so your eyes cannot focus on the water (I have tried various quality levels in Graphics Options). All other elements of the scene look fine.

Sorry if this has been reported elsewhere

I am using Rift, Nvidia 388.71, Windows 10

Thanks

Dave W.

To all,

   This VR problem of the sun reflection has been fixed in v4.2

....but only fixed in "Single Pass mode", correct ?  In other words, I still see (in 4.2) a distorted / unfocused view of the ocean while in "stereo mode", but when I switch to "single pass" mode, the problem is corrected and the reflections / water features are correctly rendered and focused.

Do you also see this ?

@joby33y,

    Try this - startup P3D, select Single Pass Mode, check that the water looks fine, then exit P3D so that when you restart, Single Pass will be active. Check the water then select Stereo and see if it is still wrong. When I start in Stereo mode, the water stays messed up in Stereo mode when I switch between the two, but not when I start in SIngle Pass. Confusing!!

    Also, see if there are fewer artifacts at airports IF you startup in Single Pass mode. Also, I startup in Single Pass at Paulo Ricardo's Rio de Janiero scenery (Simmarket) which really has great VR performance with lots of buildings, hills, water, and several airports and I see zero single pass artifacts there - but still a few at older default airports like KSEA and KSAN. I wonder if SIngle Pass brings out some old BGL errors??
