May 20, 200620 yr I am trying to upgrade all my Scandinavian FS9 scenery and have a nice setup now - but there are some problems in Norway! Don't know if anyone can help??I have installed the following software: 1. "Norway Quality Mesh" from Norway Elements 2. Torgeir Opland's 'Norway Scenic' 3. Oslo ENGM airport scenery, from AVSIM 4. Norway airports - norap2004_2.zip 5. Norway Cities - City_NO_2005.zipThey are arranged in my scenery library like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/martinlest/Library.jpgThe problem I am trying to sort out at the moment is with the airport at Bergen, which looks like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/martinlest/ENVA.jpgThe problem seems to be with the 'Norway Scenic' installation. I am fairly used to installing scenery and moving default bgl files and have double checked that I have followed the instructions. I have tried moving the order of the various entries in the file library - no help. If I remove two files from the Norway Scenery setup, LL_950090_lwm.bgl & VV_950090_vtp.bgl, the problem is solved - except that all my coastlines in the area then become rectangular: reinstating the default bgls from the Eurw folder, removed according to the instructions in the Norway Scenic ReadMe file, brings the coastlines back OK, but the landclass/waterclass/elevation problem shown in the screenshot comes back again.Anyone any ideas here? I could post more information, but I'd best wait to see if there are any 'bites' on this thread forst! Many thanks,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 21, 200620 yr Author No takers... Oh, dear. I've spent hours on this now: In fact, get the same problem with Norway Airports alone installed - I have the latest updates for it. There seem to be quite a few other threads related to this subject, but I haven't found an answer yet. Why have I got wc where there should be lc??I also get wave effects all over the land - improved by deleting VV_950090_vtp.bgl, but there must be a basic problem somewhere. I've checked a dozen times I removed all the right default bgls from the eure & eurw folders.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 21, 200620 yr Author Screenshot is Trondheim, ENVA, of course, not Bergen. Sorry ...M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 21, 200620 yr Thanks, I could say I just wasted an hour trying to figure out where your problem area was ....scott s..
May 21, 200620 yr OK, after poking around with a couple of these sceneries AT ENVA, it appears that the designer of Norway Airports norap2004 has put down "ground objects" for the airport area. His dimensions don't agree with the coastline of Norway Scenic. Also, there is an effect from the default airport flatten in the water areaMaybe the airport designer could fix? I tried looking at it on Google Earth, but the resolution isn't good enough. If you were really interested, you could possibly hand edit the alpha channel in the appropriate bitmaps (they begin with vatwy*) to make them fit better into Norway Scenic. That's assuming that Norway Scenic is correct. Without some sort of a good map, I have no way to know.scott s..
May 21, 200620 yr Nothing wrong with your install Martin. Its the way its supposed to look for the time being. The background bitmap is not 100% and neither is the coastline from Norway Scenic.Go to http://www.norgeibilder.no/ for aerial photos if you want to check how its supposed to look. The flatten problem is due to the slope of the runway, and because he ARP is 56ft. RWY THR 09 is 17ft, 27 is 56ft. It would look pretty bad to have a 40ft drop just before runway 09. There is even a bigger flatten further west to keep the flatten closer to the runway from becoming to steep. Untill we get sloped runways there is nothing that can be done.
May 21, 200620 yr Author Thank you for this - sorry to have wasted your time searching Scott!! I usually post screenshots with the co-ordinates up in the corner, but obviously forgot to press shift+Z this time.I spent, literally, several hours on this yesterday (and then asked myself 'why?' - I'm only going to fly into Trondheim once evry 6 months maybe. It's the challenge of getting it to look right I suppose). I have managed to minimise the 'damage' by excluding a number of files from the installation and re-instating some default bgls in the eure & eurw seceny folders, which were excluded by Norway_Scenic. I also added a flatten line to take out a trough in front of the runway, but as you say, other flattens are not really possible without leaving the runway 40' up in the air.LOts of smaller problems with lc/wc and I wondered whether to correct them with Ground2K4, but decided I've spent enough time on this. I have to sort out the problem of water wave effects washing over lots of land scenery too now (a problem mentioned in other threads here). We do have sloped runways BTW (or did you mean just in this Norway scenery?). A rather good one in Aerosoft's Lukla scenery package. Thanks again for the comments,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 21, 200620 yr Thanks for the link to the photo data. Didn't see any easy way to download the data so I just took a screen shot and then overlayed the Norway Scene coastline. then added the DAFIF runway data for ENVA.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/149670.jpgIt's close but not perfect. Could be better around the end of the runway I guess.scott s..
May 21, 200620 yr Author Having sorted out the problems to the best of my ability I thought it might help one or two other people if I explain what I did. This 'soultion' still leaves problems with some landclass showing as waterclass, and strange ridges in the sea (where the water changes level) but I managed to get rid of most coastline problems and have got as far in having my cake and eating it as I think I am going to, until the developers write some fixes:Set up Norway Scenic exactly as instructed , but leave this default sceneryEurw file in place, to correct problems at Trondheim, ENVA:HP950090Then to correct the double-coastline, remove the following files from the Norway Scenic scenery folder:LL_950090_lwm.bglTo stop wave effects from washing over airport sceneries, you need to remove the relevant VV_******_vtp.bgl files. I found problems at ENVA and at ENBR, so removed VV_949100_vtp.bgl & VV_950090_vtp.bglIf you find wave effects at other airports (I haven't visited them all to try this out!) you need to remove (i.e. plus back up) the associated VV_ file from Norway Scenic/scenery. The following list of default associations relevant to Norway Scenic will help I hope - if you have a problem at ENAL, for example, remove VV_949090_vtp.bgl. I cannot vouch for whatever other losses to the scenery removing these files will produce, but I cannot see any ill effects at all:scenery/Eurw/scenery:AP949090.bgl = ENAL, ENML & ENOVAP949100.bgl = ENBR, ENBM, ENFL, ENBL, ENHD, ENSD, ENSG & ENSOAP949110.bgl = ENLI & ENZVAP959080.bgl = ENRMAP959090.bgl = ENFA, ENKB, ENOL, ENVAAP950100.bgl = ENFG, ENDI, ENHA, ENKJ, ENNO, ENGM, ENRY, ENSN & ENTOAP950110.bgl = ENCN + (Denmark): EKYT, EKAH, EKVH, EKGR, EKHS, EKKA, EKLS, EKLV, EK0A, EKNM, EKRD, EKSN, EKSV, EKTS & EKVBAP951070.bgl = ENLK, ENRS, ENSHAP951080.bgl = ENBO, ENBN, ENRA, ENMS & ENSTAP951090.bgl = ENNM & ENRO + (Sweden): ESNC, ESNM, ESPC & ESNDAP951100.bgl = All Swedish airportsAP952070.bgl = ENAN, ENDU, ENEV, ENNK & ENSKAP952080.bgl = All Swedish airportsscenery/Eure/scenery:AP953060.bgl = ENHKAP953070.bgl = ENSR & ENTC + (Sweden): ESUK & ESNQAP954060.bgl = ENHF & ENHVAP954070.bgl = ENAT, ENNA & ENKA + (Finland): EFAA, EFET, EFJP, EFKT, EFMP & EFPAAP955060.bgl = ENBS, ENBV & ENMHAP955070.bgl = ENKR & ENVD + (Finland): EFIV & EFVUAP956060.bgl = ENSSAP956070.bgl = Russia only (ULMM)Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 21, 200620 yr Author Scott, Your screenshot is pretty much what I have now, with the runway hanging out into the water. AS I explained in my last post, I have sorted out most other problems now, and have added this flatten line to my Norway Airports entry in scenery.cfg, which removes a big trough in the water at the start of that same runway (at least on my setup):Flatten.0=30.0,N63 27.37,E10 53.10,N63 27.55,E10 53.10,N63 27.55,E10 53.14,N63 27.37,E10 53.14The whole mass of water is higher than it should be - hence 'sea level' being 30 metres here.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 22, 200620 yr OK -- I haven't played around with any of the flattens, but I did revise the terrain a little. Attached zip contains 2 bgls. Place these in an active scenery area with higher priority than Norway Scenic (so that they replace the relevant N.S. files) and take a look. Make sure you follow the N.S. instructions for the default files.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/149724.jpgscott s..
May 22, 200620 yr Author Firstly, a correction. Part of my previous post above should read:AP950080.bgl = ENRMAP950090.bgl = ENFA, ENKB, ENOL, ENVAI put back the setup as required by NS, and with your bgl files Scott part of the coastline away from the airport is much improved, so thanks for those. The area around the airport though still looks pretty bad - not sure why, as it seems a bit less odd than I get in your screenshot. Double-checked all my default bgl files etc. I have spent so many hours on this I am just going to leave things as they are for now I think - maybe a combination of what I had before and your bgl files will give the best result. It would need a dozen or more flatten lines to sort out ENVA fully, and even then, that would leave the end of the runway hanging in mid-air. I reckon of reached the limit (such as it is!) of my scenery building skills at this point!Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 22, 200620 yr Author One last (?) post - not sure that all that many people are interested in this!!Having put Scott's bgls into the scenery, but with my 'quirky' setup procedure, as above, the only problem then was all the hills and troughs of water around the airport. It's a bit fiddly making flatten lines, as they are not regular shapes, but the following lines, added to the Norway Airports or Norway Scenic entry in scenery.cfg sort things out for me to about 95%, without getting the runway suspended in mid-air:Flatten.0=30.0,N63 27.37,E10 53.10,N63 27.55,E10 53.10,N63 27.55,E10 53.14,N63 27.37,E10 53.14Flatten.1=30.0,N63 27.41,E10 53.12,N63 27.41,E10 53.46,N63 27.38,E10 53.46,N63 27.38,E10 53.12Flatten.2=30.0,N63 27.38,E10 53.47,N63 27.38,E10 53.29,N63 27.07,E10 53.29,N63 27.07,E10 53.47Flatten.3=30.0,N63 27.33,E10 53.72,N63 27.22,E10 53.70,N63 27.22,E10 53.46,N63 27.33,E10 53.46Flatten.4=30.0,N63 27.22,E10 53.71,N63 27.22,E10 53.64,N63 27.02,E10 53.48,N63 27.02,E10 53.59Flatten.5=30.0,N63 27.51,E10 53.14,N63 27.51,E10 53.45,N63 27.55,E10 53.45,N63 27.55,E10 53.14Flatten.6=30.0,N63 27.55,E10 53.43,N63 27.55,E10 53.95,N63 27.52,E10 53.95,N63 27.52,E10 53.43Flatten.7=30.0,N63 27.54,E10 53.79,N63 27.54,E10 53.97,N63 27.69,E10 53.97,N63 27.69,E10 53.79Flatten.8=30.0,N63 27.33,E10 53.46,N63 27.33,E10 53.53,N63 27.36,E10 53.53,N63 27.33,E10 53.46Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
