February 21, 20188 yr Hi Just installed FSX PMDG 737 NGX and started tutorial #1. I've meet a recurring problem that I have with my FSX. Everything seems OK when preparing a flight (or even in flight) and then occasionally, the sim' stops me selecting different views with a click of my joystick. It happened again as I was going through tutorial #1, where some time is spent setting things up. It just seems to freeze up and the only way out is to close FSX. I know it's not a PMGD problem but I'm having no luck looking for a solution. Could it be a CTD? I also sometimes get an ”out of memory – re-start FSX” message. Could this be a VAS? I've looked at my Win'8.1 "view all problems search" to see if it can shed any light on my problem of the "freezing" of views. It shows 3 problems with FSX. I've taken the liberty of giving the complete information for the 3 problems below. I'm way out of my depth here. So I’m hoping someone can say if these highlighted problems are the source of my "freezing" of views and could be a CTD. *Description* Faulting Application Path: D:\FSX\fsx.exe *Problem signature* Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: fsx.exe Application Version: 10.0.61637.0 Application Timestamp: 46fadb14 Fault Module Name: DSOUND.dll Fault Module Version: 6.3.9600.17415 Fault Module Timestamp: 54504746 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0001086f OS Version: 6.3.9600.2.0.0.768.101 Locale ID: 2057 Additional Information 1: 5861 Additional Information 2: 5861822e1919d7c014bbb064c64908b2 Additional Information 3: d2dd Additional Information 4: d2ddcae25462e2b2f29684f70c88f75a *Extra information about the problem* Bucket ID: bbed00706bf7350cf63cb55236b944cd (73671865538) ________________________________________________________ *Description* Faulting Application Path: D:\FSX\fsx.exe *Problem signature* Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: fsx.exe Application Version: 10.0.61637.0 Application Timestamp: 46fadb14 Fault Module Name: ai_player.dll Fault Module Version: 10.0.61637.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 46fadb57 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00037489 OS Version: 6.3.9600.2.0.0.768.101 Locale ID: 2057 Additional Information 1: 5861 Additional Information 2: 5861822e1919d7c014bbb064c64908b2 Additional Information 3: d2dd Additional Information 4: d2ddcae25462e2b2f29684f70c88f75a *Extra information about the problem* Bucket ID: 1417265f5b09560b8b850c18933bd845 (550231553) _____________________________________________________ *Description* Faulting Application Path: D:\FSX\fsx.exe *Problem signature* Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: fsx.exe Application Version: 10.0.61637.0 Application Timestamp: 46fadb14 Fault Module Name: jf_sound.GAU Fault Module Version: 1.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 4f477589 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0000a3fe OS Version: 6.3.9600.2.0.0.768.101 Locale ID: 2057 *Extra information about the problem* Bucket ID: 616c8bd910e3f3caae2438aae02fff7a (-1413735957) Ray Raymond Smyth

Using the freeware version of FSUIPC monitor VAS - see page 17, AVSIM CTD Guide (see link in my signature). When it starts getting low, you will have to take action by disabling an addon or your weather program or something to prevent running out of memory. 2 hours ago, twister1853 said: Fault Module Name: DSOUND.dll Fault Module Version: 6.3.9600.17415 This belongs to Windows 8.1 so you want to make sure it is up-to-date by making sure Windows 8.1 is up-to-date. February 27, 20188 yr Author I'm returning to this problem. When I run the Sim' it opens in Free Flight. I select an aircraft addon such as a Boeing 737 by FeelThere Wilco or one by PMDG. If I hid this aircraft rotating in the window and open another task such as answering emails, when I go back to the rotating aircraft after sometime, it appears to have lost the outside paint and the frame is frozen but the aircraft is still rotating. It seems to happen only when an addon aircraft is left rotating for a while in the background while I'm doing something else. If I go ahead and select Fly Now immediately afer selecting the 737 aircraft, it usually seems OK. I find I cannot close FSX with the freeze and I am locked on this view. The only way out is to restart the PC. I've looked at the task manager and the only thing running in the background seems to be antivirus software. Raymond Smyth
February 27, 20188 yr When you go to the setup screen, select your aircraft, say the PMDG 737, and it shows up in the windows as rotating and fully loaded, and then go to read/answer e-mails and/or surf the AVSIM Forums and do other things (maybe even play the Microsoft Solitaire game) it could easily cause your sim to freeze up. FSX is constantly loading things even when you are not actively using it. On page 18 of the AVSIM CTD Guide, it provides instructions for downloading and running Process Monitor from startup of FSX to the end of your flight. The log will show everything that is loading and running in FSX. Although you may not be going to the Pacific NorthWest using the Orbx scenery, it will still load any entries in the Scenery/World/Scenery folder. AI is loading. The aircraft you selected is loading all of the textures, the sound, the panel. The airport you selected (if none selected, the default) is loading. Any photo scenery you have enabled, whether using it or not, is loading around the world. FSX does not stop its activities just because you want to drink a cup of coffee and read the newspaper. It is working and getting things loaded. Sometimes, I'll leave my setup screen to answer the telephone. When I'm finished, maybe 20 minutes later and hit FlyNow, FSX loads the scenario instantly because it has already done that while I was on the phone. So, it is possible something happened to cause it to freeze. I don't know if your system allows multi-tasking but Windows or another program could be running a task, completing a schedule. Many systems are not powerful enough for a lot of multi-tasking. Perhaps you got an e-mail with 50 images of family and friends. When downloading to your system, that takes up resources, when you open each one that takes resources. Back a few years ago, maybe 2011(?), I had loaded FSX then went on the Internet. When I got back to FSX, it would not run. Your browser takes up resources. Just running FSX does not shutdown other tasks running on your computer. I do have a lot of photo' scenery. SThe following is always enabled: Hawaii Southern California - MegaScenery 3 British Isles Ireland All British Isles airports London VFR Everything else is disabled (apart from the default Microsoft features). I wonder could this be a contributing factor to my freezes and loss of paint? Kind regards. Raymond Raymond Smyth

February 27, 20188 yr That is what I suggest and what I do. You can do it even after you load your flight by going into the Scenery Library. All photo scenery or scenery with photographic textures will load. Some of Orbx stuff will load but I have all of the regions, like PNW, SoCal, NoCal, etc., and had an issue with my flight always freezing 3 quarters of the way to St Louis from Chicago. Always froze and FL240 at the same spot. I could not figure out why so ran Process Monitor. During the monitoring, I noted everything in the FSX\Scenery\world\Scenery folder loaded and it had a lot of Autogen and other objects in it. I was originally shocked as I was in the middle of the USA and things in the PNW were loading? Unfortunately, you should not touch anything in this folder and a few Autogen objects and a few textures is not going to hurt anything. I just want you to be aware of it and be careful what goes in that folder. BTW, the freeze on my flight to St Louis was caused by MyTrafficX (a previous version as this happened years ago). Process Monitor showed AI were loading when the freeze occurred so I disabled MyTraffic in the Scenery Library and the freezes stopped. I understand or heard the AI did not have a flight plan and FSX will freeze when that happens. It was fixed in the latest version. As I stated, everyone of your photo scenery will load whether you are near it or not and photo scenery takes up a massive amount of resources (see page 24, AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide). This was also confirmed by PMDG in their 737NGX Introduction Guide starting on page 21. If you have high FSX config and high display driver settings, this will also take up a lot of resources as everything is being rendered at the highest textures all over the world where you have photo scenery. I believe this is a major contributor to losing paint textures and freezes. Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource!
