  1. Hi Anyone tried Pro-flight simulator?
  2. Many thanks for the info'. I've had a look at the Night Environment X Demo (Berlin): quite impressive. So I'll get for California. I have MSE X Lower South California so far and MSE Washington Western. The rest is default. Regards. Ray
  3. Thanks for the clarification. I've looked at the documentation for the version of MSE Socal I purchased in 2007. It did indeed have night lighting. I thought when I upgraded to MSE X for the same area, it would also provide night lighting, but you say not. So are the blocks of lighting I see, a break-through of the default lighting and how can this be when using photo' scenery sitting on top of the default? I always thought default scenery was blanked out when over-laid with active photo' scenery. But there we go - I learn every day. Kind regards. Ray
  4. The scenery is ulra high resolution MegaSceneryEarth 4X and it does have night lighting. It just that with my settings, there are large black rectangular blocks. It ocurs even with all scenery sliders maxed out. I am unable to locate a user manual for MegaSceneryEarth 4X and hence can't check the recommended settings. Ray Also, do not get this feature with the former normal res' MegaSceneryEarth 2 scenery, eg Washington Western.
  5. Hi In nighttime, I'm getting rectangular blocks with no lights showing in Megasceneryearth LA California. Does the slider positions in the scenery display have any effect on this? I'm running FSX on a high spec. PC. Ray
  6. Hi, I am affected by two problems recently: 1) when choosing the Cessna C172SP Skyhawk - Glass screen, the two glass screens appear 'black'. 2) when switching views with photo' scenery, ocassionally the scenery becomes distorted and messed up. Can anyone suggest how to sort this out? Thanks. Ray
  7. Hi, I am finding that when I bring aircraft to a complete stop with the brakes at zero throttle (F1), the aircraft then starts to creep forward when the brake on the joy stick is release in FSX. I use a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick with FSX. Are there any settings I could check? Ray
  8. Thank you Joe for that. I've had further precise information from the provider of the scenery, as to what happens with my proposal to load their scenery in a different drive to that of FSX: By copying the FSX.exe into the E drive you would enable our installers to install the scenery there. The actual FSX.exe which you copied into your E drive is of no value for the simulator itself. You still need to start FSX from the D drive. Therefore it is important that you COPY the files there and do NOT cut and paste it! The FSX.exe still needs to be in the D drive for your FSX to run and this is also from where you still have to start FSX. I'll give it a go. Ray
  9. Hi, I have my Operating System on drive C and flight simulator FSX on drive D. I try to keep my scenery on drive E. I would like to install Switzerland Professional scenery and I understand, with my drive arrangement, It would automatically be loaded with the FSX on drive D. I asked the provider for the mechanism for loading their scenery on drive E. I have got the following advice: you can select the path for the installation in the setup. Automatically the path where your FSX is installed will be selected. To change it to another path manually you need to have an FSX.exe located there. Just copy the one from your main FSX folder into the other path where you want to install the addon and then point the installer there manually with the "Browse" button in it. When I look at the FSX folder in drive D, I see lots of sub-folders and files, including the fsx.exe. By copying only the fsx.exe on drive D into drive E, does this mean that I would not have all the contents of the FSX that is on drive D? Would any of these contents be needed when running the Switzerland scenery? Would I effectively have two FSX's installed, one on drive D and one on drive E ? I normally just click the FSX icon on my taskbar to launch the flight simulator on drive D. With this new arrangement, would it be sufficient only to click fsx.exe on the drive E when launching the Switzerland scenery? Would this setup cause any conflict between the two FSX’s and my other scenery? Ray
  10. Hi. I've been installing scenery from DVDs and have met an installation error with one DVD. The error shows: D:\FSX\\UK2000scenery\UK2000scenryVolume1\options.exe A decompression error has been detected (#5) Could not open output file I'm given the option, Abort/cancel/ignore. If I ignore and proceed, the scenery seems to install but viewing the contents of the scenery folder, a necessary application file options.exe is not showing. Any advice on these 2 features would be appreciated. Ray
  11. Thanks Christopher for the direction. I'll go to the Scotflight site and find out what I've had from them in the past. Ray
  12. I felt I had to record my sincere thanks to AVSIM for the help I received recently on 2 topics that I posted. They each received no fewer than around 40 posts each from the moderator Jim Young, as I struggled to correct things. In particular, he kept the faith that with his help, I would get there in the end and achieve a satisfactory result. For an amateur like myself this Forum has proved invaluable. No doubt there may be other problems in the future with my FSX but for the time being I'm flying again, thanks to AVSIM.
  13. Thanks Christopher - I have VFR Airfields for England & Wales but can't find the Scotflight DVD. Regards. Ray
  14. Hi Christopher: I seem to have got the England, Scotland & Wales VFR Scenery loaded back into FSX. There is one feature that I am unclear about: in the Scotland Volumes, I see the scenery that I have added to the FSX Scenery Library. There are also other folders such as Airports in Volumes 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 which I persume would have also been loaded if I had used the DVD's. Do I also add these to the FSX Scenery Library as I have done for the relevent scenery? Ray
  15. Christopher: does it matter the order in which these scenery folders are added? My original installation of the sceneries shows the order as 1.2m Photo 2.4m Night 2.4m Photo 4.8m Mesh I also have all the Scottish Sceneries but will need to load Ireland from the DVD's. Thanks. Ray
  16. Hi Christopher, Yes - England, Wales, Scotland & Ireland. I have Horizon VFR Gen-X-2.0 Volumes 1 to 10 in my E drive and after uninstalling/reinstalling FSX (& Acceleration), I now need to add them to the scenery in FSX, which is on the D drive. I see typically 3 areas per volume and in each area there are 4 entries, i.e. 1.2m Photo, 2.4m Photo, 2.4m Night and 4.8m Mesh. Each entry has a scenery folder. This gives 12 scenery folders per volume. Since I lack confidence in all this, my question is, do I have to select each of the 12 scenery folders separately when adding the scenery to FSX Scenery? Thanks. Ray
  17. Hello I appear to have successsfully uninstalled/reinstalled FSX (& Acceleration). Again, many thanks for staying with me. I now need to add the photo' scenery. You say: You'll have to relink the photoscenery once you have reinstalled FSX. Can I check which photo' scenery folders folders are used in adding the scenery. With FSX in the D drive. A typical photo' scenery is located in E:>VFR-GenX-2.0>Volume1 Volume1 folder contains: area1 folder, area2 folder & area3 folder Each area folder contains 4 scenery folders for night, mesh & 2 photo' This gives 12 scenery folders. Does each scenery folder have to be individually added? Ray
  18. OK - I'll go for an uninstall/reinstall of FSX. There a couple of points I need help with first: 1) to remove FSX, the AVSIM Guide directs one to "Programs & Features" where FSX can be uninstalled. Any addons in "Programs & Features" including aircraft, scenery and utilities such as weather, must also be removed. I see none of these addons in "Programs & Features". In the folder FSX>SimObjects>Airplanes, I do though see lots of aircraft. Does uninstalling FSX remove these aircraft? 2) my OS is in the C drive, FSX is in the D drive and all my Photo' Scenery folders are in the E drive. Is it really necessary to remove these Photo' Scenery folders (there are a lot of them !)? Thanks again. Ray
  19. Hi The Microsoft link given https://support.micr...en-us/kb/960481 suggests the following when trying to resolve a 'Product Activation Error': Product Activation Error: An error occurred while attempting to activate the product. The problem may be due to an incomplete installation of the application. Reinstalling the application may resolve the problem. Otherwise, please contact product support for assistance. So, should I should try the reinstallation of FSX? If so, is it sufficient to solely uninstall FSX from the list of Programs in Control Panel? Thanks again for sticking with me! Ray
  20. Hi My setup is: OS on C drive, FSX on D drive Scenery on E drive With the suggestion of re-formatting, which of the drives would need re-formatting?
  21. Thanks for the toleration! I understand - NO Flight Simulator X Files folder in the Documents folder until I start up FSX and consequently no Logbook.BIN file exists until this start up happens. I am still left with the situation that 1) I have installed FSX in the D drive, 2) I see all the folders and files listed in FSX, but 3) I cannot start up FSX by clicking on the fsx.exe file. I get a Product Activation Error (ERROR CODE: 8-c0000006) but I have never been given the option to Activate FSX. As I said above, when I tried to install Acceleration, I got the message "Flight Simulation must be activated before you can install FSX:Acceleration". So I am back to the question, how do I activate FSX if I have never been given the option? The download link given https://www.microsof...ationPatch.aspx I see installs Service Pack 2 (assuming Service Pack 1 already installed). Would these Packs be installed before Activation of FSX?
  22. Hi I cannot answer the 2 questions in the first 2 sentences since I do not know what Logbook.BIN is (or means) or if trying to run FSX uses an old fsx.cfg. All I know is what is in the 3rd sentence i.e. I have had Windows reinstalled and then I reinstalled FSX from the DVD but at start up I immediately got the Simprop.dll message and was not asked to activate. Regarding Logbook.BIN : 1. if I look in the backup data I see "Desktop>Old Account>Documents>Flight Simulator X Files" and there is Logbook.BIN indeed 2. with the new OS if I look in "C:>Users>Raymond>Documents" I do not see "Flight Simulator X Files" and hence no Logbook.BIN and I cannot therefore rename Logbook.BIN as suggested in the guide. Should not reinstalling FSX create a new Flight Simulator X folder with Logbook.BIN therein? I am still determined but am of for a few days. Thanks. Ray
  23. Thanks for the prompt post. Could I have advice on the 3 questions in 2, 3 and 4 below: 1. I have reinstalled FSX and tried to run FSX without Acceleration but got the "Simprop.dll" error I mentioned above. 2. I have now tried to reinstalled Acceleration but get the message "Flight Simulation must be activated before you can install FSX:Acceleration. How do I reactivate FSX ? 3. I see Flight Simulation X Files in the Old Documents. Should I have deleted these before I reinstalled FSX? 4. In the new OS I have looked in C:\Windows and there is no "Registry32\config". Should there be? The help is much appreciated. Ray
  24. OK thanks, I see. There is one thing I must check before going further. Before reinstalling the OS, a backup was made of some OLD DATA. This is held in a folder on the Desktop called "Old Account". In this folder there is a 'Documents' folder containing 'Flight Simulator X Files'. Now the new reinstalled OS setup has also got a folder called 'Documents' outside the Desktop but this does not contain any 'Flight Simulator X Files'. Could this possibly mean that when I reinstalled FSX, the 'Flight Simulator X Files' went to the 'Documents' folder in the 'Old Account' folder and if so, should I have deleted the 'Flight Simulator Files' folder held in the 'Old Documents' folder first before reinstalling FSX? Sorry if this sounds a bit contorted. Thanks again. Ray
  25. Hi again, I did not try to install Acceleration after this latest attempt at reinstalling FSX. I have though, now tried to install Acceleration but get the message "Flight Simulation must be activated before you can install FSX:Acceleration. Activate FSX and then run Setup again". Although FSX was lost at the reinstallation of the OS, could Acceleration still be installed? How can I check for this? If not, then I cannot see how to use the suggestions by the AVSIM CTD Guide. Thanks. Ray
